Faron's Five-Cent Tour

Waking of Saturday, October 27, 2018 ~ 4

I warped to the Shoda Sah Shrine in the rainy jungles of Faron, and went up the plateau. I’d seen it from the top of that mountain above the Twin Bridges.... the Lynel. Except it was a White Lynel now.
It had stood between me and the tower. I remembered....
I killed it. Awesomely. I don’t think I even got a scratch.
And I floated down a level to the next broad shelf, and found a Red Hinox.
I killed it, too.
Down another level and I ran into a nest of Lizalfos.
Killed ‘em.
And there, out from the edge of the next shelf downward.... was the crown of the Sheikah Tower. I could have floated over and it would have been a very short climb to the top, but....
I looked down.
An Electric Wizzrobe pranced around the tower’s base, and a cloud of Keese swarmed about its middling heights.
A few appeals to Ja Baij and they were all gone.
I sailed down and ran around the base for a little bit, scaring up what Koroks I could, before giving the tower a proper climb.
And the Faron Tower and local map were mine.
Cooool. I could see the places I’d been to—that pointy sandbar was called Cape Cresia, with a Soka Point at its tip.
All the Floria names were cool. I made my way north to a Keelay Plain—which was one of the very few places I’ve found that have gravelenjoyed the foley—played some dangerous bog games looking for Koroks in Tobio’s Hollow, then up to the Jia Highlands and Angel Peak.
I was getting quite good at clearing out entire camps of Moblins and Bokoblins before they even knew I was there.
I remember paragliding in to the very last Bokoblin in my mask, his start of surprise and then friendly approach to come talk Bokoblin to me, and how I cut him down in two rapid strokes the instant he was close enough.
Didn’t even give him time to blink.
“I’m a heartless murderer,” I said to myself.
Of course, that very night was a Blood Moon and they all came straight back. In the high meadow I killed the stray Guardian one more time before getting out of there and paragliding all the way to Dueling Peaks Stable—I’d wanted to do that since I first climbed up to Misko’s Cache above the Twin Bridges. I was in roughly the same area....
But I couldn’t think of any business to see to at Dueling Peaks Stable, and I was getting tired, which meant.... it was another warping meander back to the Great Fairy Tera.
I upgraded a crapton of clothes.
And I considered....
I considered.... sorting.... for a while....
Sooorrrrt?
No.
Not cleaning my closet yet
GOOD NIGHT.

Journey to Toruma

Waking of Friday, August 3, 2018 ~ 4

More Koroks.
More Guardians.
All around the wetlands and up the Sahasra Slope....
I was a little beyond the Pit when I saw the red moon rising....
“Dang it it’s a Blood Moon!” I warped to Satori Mountain and scrambled near enough to its top as fast as I could.
“What?” David asked, confused at my agitation.
But I had already launched off toward Washa’s Bluff.
My paraglide.... could not be fast enough.
“I’m not gonna make it,” I moaned.
“Not gonna make what?” said David. I don’t think he knows about that shrine....
The air began to redden as I was still sailing, approaching the bluff’s edge.
I’m not gonna make it....”
“What are you trying to do?”
I hit the grass and the strange music began to weep and howl and unholy smoke dripped up into the air—I could see the dais—it was glowing—I was sprinting—the Piano was rumbling—I was almost there
And the vision started and Zelda’s voice sounded in warning and I came back to the present and the dais went dark and....
I had missed it.

Dang it.

I traveled back to where I had been, shooing up Koroks around a lake southeast of the Pit. I got a few more of them before attempting to swim upriver toward Kakariko Bridge. But the current was stronger than one would think, for just running into a little dead-ended lake like that.
I couldn’t quite make it, even in full Zora Armor....
Just before I ran out of stamina, I warped out of my predicament to the nearby Dueling Peaks Stable, and thought.
I’d already done some shopping to find bits for the Great Fairies to work with.... but I hadn’t seen Hestu in a while. What could he do for me? I had certainly collected a lot of seeds since I’d last seen him.
I warped to Korok Woods to have a visit. But he could offer me no more room for bows. I didn’t want any more shields just now, and another slot for a weapon was still too expensive.
Poop.
I climbed up the Deku Tree’s giant roots and into the Navel; a Korok named Peeks had been waiting for me to show him a pictograph of a Blupee. I did, and he liked that. He liked it to the tune of a hundred rupees, to be precise.... and I liked that.
The day was only just dawning, and so I slept in Pepp’s bed until noon, at which point I decided I had been meandering around long enough.
At noon, I warped to the Sand Seal Rally in the desert.... and started walkin’.
I was going to find Dragon’s Exile.

“Only those who have walked through the desert can truly know its size.” The line from a certain, ah.... Bellena, from Skies of Arcadia, immediately came to mind.
I’d started in a fairly westward direction. The dunes stretched endlessly before me, melting into a blinding ruddybeige haze and rippling in the heat. Fortunately my upgraded Desert Voe Gear was enough to deal with the temperature. I could wander anywhere down here....
The sandscape was not devoid of obstacles, however. There were Lizalfos galore, and more often than not I found myself wearing my mask to keep them at bay. The real trouble came when the Lizalfos began taking up with other breeds of baddies, for I could only wear one mask at a time.
At a giant ribcage I had to stay out of sight up on top of the spine whilst I dropped bombs on a gang of Moblins. But once the Moblins were gone, I had no trouble floating down and looting the place completely. Lizalfos still frozen in sandy-colored camouflage watched me from four feet away, movement betrayed only in their gleaming eyes as I cracked into their treasure chests and carried on my way.
A long jog later, at a tunneled rock formation set low into the sand, I had to hide again while lobbing Bomb Arrows at a small troop of Bokoblins. Some well-placed boomers helped a great deal at the opening volley. But man, that one Black Bokoblin kept wandering off, and took forever to bring down.
But afterward, my mask was enough once again to walk freely among the remaining Lizalfos.
Dusk fell, the sand became a wash of purple-green and grey, and I had to switch from my Headband to my Ruby Circlet.
The desert was truly vast.
In the cool of the night I encountered two men tangling with a couple of Bokoblins, and I dashed in to give them a hand.... but the nighttime came with its own added challenges.
I saw the tiny, crackling, flapping shapes descending fast upon me—“NOT THE KEESE, NOT THE KEESE!”—and immediately ran to put some distance between us. I still had not forgotten that Electric Keese in the rain outside the Honeydell. My GOSH what an ordeal that had been....
From a greater distance I was able to drop the little fiends with my bow, and take care of the Bokoblins. But I rather lost sight of the two men. I ran back toward where I had seen them, near a couple of lonesome palm trees, and I found them standing easily.
They offered me no goodies, though. Seemed I’d run so far away, the game had depopulated them.
Ah well, that was all right. But dang, that Silver Bokoblin could hit.
In the end I could only suffice myself with the said Bokoblin’s weapon—a Trilizal Boomerang with an added attack-bonus like crazy.

At length I came to a long, low shelf in the bedrock, maybe a little taller than I was; the topo lines were gentle here. Toruma Dunes was the name of this place. I jogged along the edge on the upper part, and in the lower portion, out some score yards and burrowing around in a circle in the sand, was a Molduga.
There was something.... peculiar.... about its path....
I didn’t want to get close and I did not want it to sense me down in its own element. But there was something there.... I was sure of it. The Molduga was going round and round within the confines of four small, jutting stone formations, and these formations seemed to share a kind of radial symmetry with each other. Equally distanced.
And I could see on one stone, there was a small, dark shape. I couldn’t quite make out what it was, but....
I needed to get closer.
I dropped onto the lower sands when the beast was farthest away in its tiny circuit. Uhuh, it was terrible approaching it! My steps were slow and light and even, but how long would I be able to flout the Molduga’s superior senses?
In the end I curved wide until I had centered one of the stone formations between the Molduga and me.... and then made a mad dash for it.
I made it onto the stone without incident, and the Molduga continued on its course.
You know I think it may actually have been much smaller than that Molduga I had killed for Malena....
Huh.
But I didn’t wonder about it for long. The object I had seen on the stone stood plain before me now: it was a brazier. And I could see on the stones to my left and right, more braziers waiting to be lit. I assumed the one across from me had one as well—they were situated on the outward-facing edges.
But I couldn’t very well light them up with this brute in the way....
So I drew it up with normal arrows, and blew it up with Bombs.
....That has a nice ring to it. Time to write a song stop rhyming.
With the Molduga dead I was free to light the braziers, and when all four of them were lit, up in the center came the Tho Kayu Shrine.
Excellent.

Frozen Goods

Waking of Friday, August 3, 2018

I slept at Outskirt Stable until morning, and when I woke up, it was raining.
From there I warped to Cotera to get an idea of what I needed—in essence, to have a look at my shopping list.... White Chuchus and Ice Keese Wings. Those would strengthen my new Desert Voe Gear. Cool. Well I knew just where to look for those....
And I warped to a shrine in the eastern Gerudo Highlands, just beyond the Death Hole Arena.... and started walking westward.
The frilled backs of camouflaged Lizalfos humped out of the snow in blatant arches; I dunno who they were trying to fool. I killed them and collected.... hhhh.... their icy white tails—I wished the normal ones would drop tails for me so readily.
There weren’t very many White Chuchus to go on, but I did find a few Ice Keese as I meandered over the icy plateaus. There were also quite a few treasure chests stuck in the frozen ground up here. I guess since it was such a harsh environment.... hardly anybody had ever come a-looting.
Some sights were familiar, some were new.... and then I came to that giant Lightning Symbol. I had seen it from many directions at many distances, bur now I walked along the shelf at its very foot. It was carved or painted, or both, into the stark red stone of the naked cliff, at least fifty feet above me. At the heart of the radial design was a Sheikah dais....
Along the cliff’s bottom, about a half a stone’s cast to the right, an icy Lizalfos watched me as I started to climb. I decided I would leave him be as long as he wasn’t raising any ruckus.
The way was slow, and I think.... I was not able to employ my Climber’s Bandana—I needed my Ruby Circlet to ward away the cold.
Either that or I just forgot. Like I do sometimes.
It seems I’ve become a man of many hats.
I climbed all the way to the upturned dais, and though I had a decent amount of stamina left, I nevertheless tested whether the tiny shelf of rounded stone would support me.
It wouldn’t.
I clung like a spider to the red, snow-dampened wall, swiveling the camera about me at the views. It was simply a Sheikah dais, turned up sideways and set into the heart of this.... lightning motif. The painted bolts stuck out in four distinct directions.... mmmm Skies of Arcadia woulda had five....
Shock Arrows.
I concentrated before jumping—sometimes I only let go when I mean to leap—and in midair I drew my bow, twisted back round, took aim, and snapped a spattering, zapping bolt of crackling electricity right into the dais.
On the shelf below, the Keeha Yoog shrine erupted from the snow, and I received the monk’s blessing.... as well as a completion notification to an either unwarranted or completely forgotten shrine quest. When had I spoken to this Geggle”....?
Well that’s embarrassing I mean usually I take such note....
When I exited the shrine, the Lizalfos was gone.
I continued westward until with a shock I realized I had reached the northern end of that saddle—the Risoka Snowfield it was called. I found where the little Taluses had guarded the Meteor Rod, but the chest had not respawned.
Well.... no worries there; I still had the weapon.
I still hadn’t gotten enough White Chuchu Jelly, though. I fished for them all over the snowfield, tangling with Lizalfos, with Bokoblins, with wolves, with no blasted shortage of stalmoblins.... with all kinds of things.
And then I checked out that skull-den....
I don’t like to venture into those if I can help it. I’d much rather draw the fiends out of the structure to play. But I was surprised when I drew near to this one’s mouth and saw that it was empty anyway. Empty save for one solitary chest in the middle of the space....
Huh.
I approached the chest and HALF A DOZEN WHITE CHUCHUS EXPLODED OUT OF THE GROUND. Huaghh. Gave me a start I tell YOU what.
But when I had recovered from the shock, as I backed up from their freezing attacks, I grinned to myself—these were just what I needed....
I killed them all and turned over a plentiful supply of White Chuchu Jelly. And by this time, I had gotten my fill of Keese wings, too.
Satori Mountain was alight. For kicks, I warped to it, subdued the Lord of the Mountain, and rode him to the Outskirt Stable. Here I dismounted and tried once again to take its picture, being careful to keep it in my view the entire time. But evidently even just raising the pictobox counted as looking away from it; it snorted, galloped away a few paces and vanished.
Ah that was all right.
I knew where it lived.
I had my frozen goods; it was time to visit Cotera. She raised my Radiant Outfit one level—when had I picked up those Luminous Stones?—and she upgraded my Desert Voe outfit to level two. And two levels of course meant the outfit got a perk.... and the Desert Voe perk.... was shock-damage resistance.
Well wouldn’t THAT have been nice! |D

Link The Physical

Waking of Saturday, June 2, 2018 ~ 2

TO BUSINESS....
David’s ahead of me. But I would show him something he’d never done. Something I’d never done either, to be honest, but....
Well, I had faith it was possible.
Actualy.... I knew it was possible!
I’d become quite practiced at avoiding spoilerish images on the internet, but.... I recalled catching it in one YouTube thumbnail I had seen.... it had been pretty striking....
Also I’d heard tell from my Compendium that it was a thing that you could do.
As I ran from the Wetland Stable toward the Honeydell (and saved Leekah again), I felt appropriate in rather recreating what I had glimpsed in that thumbnail, and started stripping off my clothes. I left a rugged-looking spear on my back, though. And so, looking a proper barbarian, I came to the edge of the dell and peered down. The rain made it difficult to see, but there were unmistakably two bears down there.
That.... could complicate matters. I was hardly sure I could handle one bear—how could I be sure the other wouldn’t attack me while I was at it?
As I hemmed and hawed, shirtless Link did something I’d never seen him do before—seemed the programmers had added a new stance dance move....
Suddenly I saw his arms rise slowly up from his sides, straight out—I swung the camera around him to see what he was on about....
And then flex! He regarded one bicep, and then with a slight shift in posture turned his head to admire the other.
Oh my gosh! XD Oh I laughed so much at that.... XD XD XD
Well, eventually one bear ran off, but the remaining one wouldn’t come out of the cave. I couldn’t deal with it like that....
And then that one suddenly ran off too, and I was bearless.
Eh, as it was night, I returned to the Wetland Stable and rested until the morning. Whereupon I gave Honeydell another go, but there were no bears.
Hmph.
So I tried Shadow Pass. I’d seen a bear in there before. And my Compendium said they could be found in the Akkala Highlands. But when I got there all I found was a wolf.
I bounced between the two for a while, Honeydell and Shadow Pass, but with no luck—just a really bad encounter with an electric Keese in the rain—NEVER AGAIN—
And.... David had stepped out again anyway, so.... I decided to hunt some more Guardians in the meanwhile.
Back to Lomei Labyrinth. I killed the Crawler. I killed the maze-lurker. And then.... it was time to revisit the dread basement.
When I floated down this time.... they all could see me coming! I sailed quickly behind the giant pillar by the entrance....
Four Decayed Guardians in the room. That’s how many lasers there had been. I peeked round the pillar’s edge until one of them saw me.
Hoo. I could do this.
I stepped out again, its laser found me, the Piano got restless, and I had to time my parry very carefully this time—the Guardians’ laserbolts were fast, but they still took time to traverse the yards between us. A very short time....
But I whacked it back across the room nonetheless, and that Guardian exploded. Excellent!
On to the next!
I killed the four Decayed ones that way, peeping round the pillar. But there were two Stalkers left. And for those ones all I could do was . . . . well walk up to them as surely as I might, until they came to life.
Sparks and embers rained from the ceiling where the lightning struck on the maze’s rainy surface.
I almost had to come right up between the splay of their spider legs before they’d finally wake up.
Ughuhuh.
But I did it. Twice. And the swell of Strings carried me through the maniacal Piano, and presently every threat was eliminated, and I....
I HAD CLEANED THE BASEMENT.
And its yield brought me up to twenty-three gears! ^_^
HUH! After this, that thing I wanted to show David would surely pose no problem at all!
I warped back to the Wetland, and luck was on my side: the day was fair, and only one bear prowled in the Honeydell, and that well away from the cave.
David wasn’t there, but.... I knew he would be shortly.
Switching once again to my Nature Boy outfit, I leapt off the edge as silently as I could, and paraglided down in a calculated sail toward the bear . . . it was so big up close.
It sensed me just before I landed on its back, and then started jumping and rearing, trying to throw me off....
My stamina is greater than it has been—two full wheels.
And with it I was able to hold on.... and soothe the bear.
After only a moment it stood still, and only rocked in its lumbering animal stance dance beneath me.
Oh my gosh I tamed a bear! XD
And I got it to walk! :D I headed toward the road....
I’d seen David ride a deer at a walk before, but when he had tried to give it a spur it had bucked him off.
Could I get the bear to go faster than a walk? Safely at least?
But I was content to just go lumbering forward for the moment. It was such a big animal—and its tail was quite as fluffy as a rabbit’s!
As I neared the way out of the dell, the bear roared and tried to throw me off again, but I was able to soothe it once more.
It was around this time that David entered the room.
“....Why are you riding a bear?” he said flatly.
“Well that’s not the reaction I was hoping for!” I said, “Have you ever ridden a bear?”
“No,” he laughed.
But I was glad that I seemed to have thoroughly captured his attentions with the spectacle for the moment. ^_^
Spectacled.... Spectacled bear.
LOL.
I asked him about spurring his deer before, and then.... decided to try it on the bear. I hit A
And the bear started into a great burly lope! It ran down the road! With me on its back! Oh my gosh! XD XD
At whiles it would get tired of me and grunt and roar, but I was able to get it all the way back to the Wetland Stable.
And I wondered....
The more attentive denizens of the stable all cowered and whimpered at my approach—even Kass siffened and looked at me with some pause, his accordion momentarily forgotten. But Lawdon (whom I’d been giving a lot of business to lately) said automatically when I rode up, “Well, looks like you’ve caught yourself a new steed! Would you like to register it?”
“Yes, please!”
“Understoo— Uh...”
And then he looked at my big new mount.
“Oh for the love of Hylia... That’s not a horse!”
XD XD XD XD
“We only board horses here, no exceptions,” he told me.
XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
Oh that was PRECIOUS! ^_^
Ah!
Delightful. > u <
Agh well I figured I’d dealt with the poor bear for long enough at that point. But when I thought about dismounting.... I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t go savaging all the people standing around.
So I rode him back home.
It was rather terrifying and alarming every time he tried to buck me off. And I wondered if, when I let him go.... he’d turn on me and I’d have to kill him.
I equipped something a bit stronger than my scary-looking Nature Boy spear, just in case. But when I got off, we just ran our separate ways from each other.
Heh. Cool.
I rode a bear! ^_^

To See What I Could See

Waking of Friday, August 11, 2017

You know, lately I try not to play too far ahead before I’ve written up my adventures so far. I really do. But man....
I don’t know what came over me on this day. It’s a Zelda game. It’s a siren. It’s Blow it all I just wanna play the game and be the Hero. Escape to Hyrule. Divert my mind. Fly me away and tell me stories....

I was still in the deepest recesses of the Forgotten Temple.
David said he’d just warped out of that one. But.... There were no convenient shrines to warp to outside. I think the closest one was Ketoh Wawai, and that one was all in the dark with a Hinox next to it.
I didn’t want to have to traverse any huge distances again. How was I going to get out of here?
....
Well, I decided to just try the same way I’d gotten in—on the air currents. I climbed up the giant Goddess statue for some altitude (pardon me, Lady) and wouldn’t you know.... I made it out unscathed this time! ^_^
After that I climbed back up to where the shrine-detector had vexed me, near where I’d met Yammo and seen my first Tabantha Moose.
My blue marker was right there on that red mountain.
What had I seen on top of that mountain?
I needed to go get it—NOW.
It had always been my wont to keep so many things in reserve until NEVER, because what if I had more urgent need of them down the road?
But I chucked that notion out the window as I perused my very old stock of Spicy Omelets. Surely they should have molded over by now.... but! My hammerspace pockets seemed also to act as the perfect preservation larder.
I ate an omelet, and charged up the road, not stopping for anything! I scrambled over the rough red rocks, straight up the mountainside! My blue marker drew nearer in my HUD map....! And UP over a little crest and it would be in sight!
I had a little difficulty focusing on it however as I seemed to have disturbed a little camp of cold-blooded baddies. Bokoblins, Ice Keese, White Chuchus.
I swiveled my scope madly—there it was! My blue marker!
It was a tree.
I had placed it on the naked trunk of a frozen tree.
....
I ran toward it! Straight through the baddie-camp and further up the hill! Passed the tree, the marker disappeared, and I kept running! I didn’t care to engage any of those things just now!
But higher up on the crest of the mountain was something that made me pull up a short. o_o I snapped its pictograph just as it turned its massive head and noticed me.
A Great-Horned Rhinoceros.
It was big, and woolly! With a blue-grey coat, and an enormous mean-lookin’ horn on its nose!
It charged and I jumped out of the way! Turned and pinked it with my sword. It bellowed and ran away. I ran but couldn’t catch it.... fired one arrow—it groared again—landed a second arrow....!
And it was down!
That was a great lotta meat to harvest! I scooped it all up quick and skipped up to the very tip of the mountain.
The warming effect from my spicy omelet would run out soon.... I decided I would paraglide back to the warmer climes!
And I did—it was a very long flight and I started freezing before I escaped the frigid air. But I managed to touch down on a warmer hill just above where I had started, near that bend in the path that curves around the head of the Forgotten Temple Valley.
GOT the blue marker!
Where to next? :D

The Lynels' Corridor

Waking of Saturday, June 10, 2017

Well, what started out as a plan to go get hornshards from Farosh.... ended up as a wandering exploration of the Faron region.... disguised as a giant Korok hunt. I climbed all over the hills above Malanya’s spring, meandered around the seashore, found some more Guardians—I’ve been marking them on my map. It’s creepy when the normal, healthy ones with working legs just sit there.... unmoving.... like enormous spiders....
My wanderings brought me westward, through a great mess of mounted bokoblins, and toward a place David had said he’d really liked. On the west side of Faron were some grasslands running north to south between a green ridge on the east side and some bare beige tiered mountains on the west side, part of the Gerudo Highlands I think. Maybe.
These grasslands had a name, but I do not remember it.
I simply called it.... The Lynels’ Corridor.
For there were two of them in there.
I started at the south end, and stayed on the east side, atop the green ridge. The first Lynel I saw I tried casting bombs at, but he soon got wise to my presence—over such a distance—and started shooting Shock Arrows back at me. At first they sailed over my head and away into the countryside, but then.... mm he must have pulled some different tactic.... lightning came bolting out of the sky....
I ran away—remembering to go back and grab the Korok Leaf I’d dropped when I got zapped!—until he finally lost interest.
Further north along the Corridor, there was another Lynel.
For this one, I situated myself on a little shelf of rock where I could not be seen from the valley floor—and commenced another game of Bomb-Golf.
It took some doing I tell you what but after a great many bombs over a few days and nights—I had slain the northern Lynel.
Evening was coming on, and lest there was a Blood Moon coming I paraglided down and quickly scooped up his remains—a Lynel hoof, a Lynel horn, a Lynel Spear, a Lynel BOW. Among other things I’m sure.
Craving the high ground once again, I climbed round a single tall butte and up into the stony Gerudo Highlands on the west side this time. I didn’t fancy being on the valley floor if there were any more Lynels about.
I thought to go farther north to continue my bird’s eye sweep of the Corridor, but there was a Guardian in the way. It was on a lower shelf of the mountains than where I was, but I didn’t care for the lively patrol it kept of that area.
So I climbed up to the next shelf, looking for a bypass....
As it turned out there were quite a few things in the way up here! More Guardians—thank you, pictobox feature—wolves, electric keese....
Just too many hassles that I didn’t want to bother with. And so every time I encountered one.... I just kept climbing up to the next shelf.
I came to one place where a Decayed Guardian sat in a wide, bare expanse of sandy stone, and at something of a risk to my general wellbeing I paraglided onto a nearby overhang to flush up a Korok. (There were a few Koroks up here, too.)
And as I stood on that tall, tall outcropping of stone, I looked into the low clouds on the other side of these Highlands, to the west.... and I saw it.
It was an island—and it was moving.
Strange movements. Rotational and sharp, as if it were timed for something, as if you had to paraglide from those crags to the north to get onto it properly. What in....?
It turned, machine-like, swiveling under the single pine tree at its crest—no there were two islands, one had been behind—
No.... not islands....
“That’s a Divine Beast,” I said, eyes wide in awe.
No one was in the room with me.
Two great humps with strange spires on top of them, the curving neck with the weird head....
That was a Divine Beast.
I remembered the name Vah Naboris from Impa’s tale. Was this that beast? It sounded like Nabooru, a Gerudo name.... and this seemed to be Gerudo territory.... though admittedly I hadn’t seen any Gerudo since Karsh, long, long ago at the rainy Woodland Stable.
And that one in my memory at the Sacred Ground.

I was curious about the northern part of that Corridor, but.... with so many Guardians and other things in the way.... the route I was on wasn’t exactly ideal.
I headed south again.
And of course there in my way again were—
“Wolves,” I growled, “we don’t need their scum.” XD
I climbed up to the next shelf and kept heading south, getting quite far this time.... back down south along the Corridor....
I had seen a pillar of black smoke somewhere down there, on a high ledge near the southern mouth of the Corridor. I may even have seen it from as far away as the Highland Stable and the Ka’o Makagh Shrine. In my experience, black smoke meant bad guys. White smoke meant good guys I think. But all smoke.... had a kind of interesting draw to it.... Agh, like a moth to a flame, I just wanna see what’s going on!
I could see the smoke ahead of me now, south along the shelves of the Highlands. It had come in and out of view, disappearing and reappearing.... But now as I was higher up about its level, I kind of wanted to go find its source.
Before I got there however, I came across a huge saddle in the mountain: a vast, bare stretch of grit and gravel cut east to west through the Highlands like the devil’s own highway. It looked.... somehow contrived. Not natural. In my mind’s eye I could see the massive Vah Naboris treading along it....
My but I wondered what could be that way.... the bending of the ground brought the tempting horizon much too close....
Hmmm but I was getting tired. I really felt like I should just find a shrine and stop or something; it was my bedtime.
I marked the Devil’s Own Highway with a little line of stars on my map (it was in an empty blue region I had not yet downloaded into my Slate), and turned back to the east. There below me was the southern mouth of the Lynel’s Corridor. I could just jog on across it and back to the green ridge on the east side, and then go north. Maybe I’d finally reach the northern end....
When 曹操曹操到! My shrine-locator started beeping.
And there was the smokestack! Right there! Just a few shelves downhill.
Hmm, seemed like the shrine signal and the smoke were coming from near the same spot! How interesting....
As I approached—scaring up two Koroks very close by—I could see a lot of messy piles of bones and things around the Shrine.... looked like a bad guy camp. But I couldn’t see any Bokoblins around....
I climbed up over the rock, dropped down into a little shallow bit where most of the garbage was, and found.... a woman, brandishing a ladle at a giant hunk of gourmet meat in a wok over a fire.
It was black.
“Who are you?” she said.
“Who are YOU?” I replied.
Her name was Moza, and for the sake of becoming a better cook, she was training in isolation.
“Your smoke signal?” I asked.
“Smoke signal?” she said, puzzled, “Oh you mean the dish I’m making?” or something like that.
“It’s burning,” I said, “Badly.”
And that ruffed her feathers all right.
She taught me some.... recipes of her own design. Lavish Meat Dish: meat and ore. Ancient Meat Dish: meat and ancient parts. Ultimate Survival Dish: straight up monster parts.
“That sounds gross,” I said.
“HEY!” she yelled back at me, “If you want to be an ultimate survivor then you’ve got to be willing to eat anything!
I don’t think.... there was any helping her.
I left her to it.
And approached the shrine. The surrounding garbage piles were.... multitudinous. Flies buzzed loudly and nastily. Ugh. What a horrible place for a shrine.
The Ishto Soh Shrine – Bravery’s Grasp the trial inside was called.
I still have no idea what to do with that moving platform on the floor.
Somehow I made it up those stairs and to the monk.
Oh I would dearly love to see David attempt that one....

Might just do it again. To save my bow.

Sirens of West Necluda

Waking of Saturday, March 25, 2017 ~ 2

Long ago on the Plateau, as I went to meet the Old Man for the last time, I stopped inside the lower halls of the Temple of Time to visit the statue of the Goddess once more.
I had collected four spirit orbs by that point, and in exchange for those four spirit orbs, the Goddess offered to gift me with my choice of either stronger health or greater stamina. I chose health, and received another heart container.
I have been collecting spirit orbs and praying at Goddess statues for this purpose ever since.
But all throughout Upland Zorana, and for a long time before that, I’d only had three orbs to my name.
I knew of one shrine that I had left alone for a long, long time, back in West Necluda. It lay far to the north of the road, on the other side of a tree-smattered spread of hills I had not wanted to stray into, across a little bit of river, and on an island. I’d marked it with a marker in my Slate so long ago, but I had never gone back to it.
Considering the increasing treachery of the monsters in my path, I figured it was time to pay it a visit, and thus attain a fourth spirit orb. But I was in luck: my map of the Lanayru region, home to the Zoras, showed that I could more easily approach that island from the north bank of the river. It would be just a little dash across the wetlands I had already explored, over some mostly bare land, and it should be just right there. Easy in reach.
I warped back to the shrine in which I had weathered the lightning storm. There were still lizalfos lurking about; I killed a few. There was also one of those prancing spectres with the lightning rods—I’m sorry to say I rather ran away when he shot an electric keese at me—I couldn’t ready my bow in time to take it down, and I didn’t have any wood or bone weapons....!
But after I’d given myself some distance, I ran back in again and laid that skipping D-cell to waste.
The.... well I guess you could call it a boardwalk—was completely submerged in places, but I semi-followed it to some dry hills—and my shrine locator started beeping at me.
But.... it was in a different direction....
There were more shrines, it seemed.... very nearby.... but just off my map a bit....
I found a road as well, and people walking and riding along it! People I’d never met before. One man on a horse told me I might want to get close to Hyrule Castle thinking of finding treasure there.... but that I might lose my life along the way. It was too dangerous.
This world was so big.... No but what was I doing out here? Just the shrine. Just the one shrine and then I needed to get back to the Zoras; I still had all Ledo’s rocks in my pockets.... Though it wasn’t a bad thing venturing about for shrines, expanding my map.... after all, I had to find the other races and their leaders, and I had to find my memories....
Oh who was I fooling? —
This was a Zelda game.
The Sirens were singing.
I wanted to wander....
Maybe some of the Courage of my former life was coming back to me.
