Shrine Out Of Time 2.3 - Gifts

Evening of Tuesday, November 17, 2020 (comprised of some raw note editings from April 29 through April 30, 2023 that I really hope sound consistent because I left it alone for too long) ~ 3

Shrine Out Of Time 2.3 - Gifts

It was a Modest Test Of Strength.

And I beat the Guardian.

Passed through the gate.

Looted the treasure chest.

And approached the meditating Monk....

Your triumph over the test of strength

subverts a prophecy of ruin. From the

ashes of Hyrule, a hero rises.

The Monk spoke the familiar words.

In the name of Goddess Hylia, I

bestow upon you this Spirit Orb.

And the Orb emerged from his solar plexus, arced gently across the space between us, and entered into my heart, my face pensive and reverent as ever at these times.

The little fanfare played, and the pop-up popped up: Spirit Orb – A symbol of courage given to those who have overcome the challenges of a shrine.

And I clicked to dismiss it away.

And then it turned.

You have at last conquered all of our

trials.

the Monk said.

Having fulfilled our purpose, we monks

bestow upon you this...

The warrant of the true hero.

You must now depart for the

Forgotten Temple.

A Gift from the Monks – the new quest banner flashed across the top of the screen.

And then, at the last.... the Monk imparted those timeless words....

May the Goddess smile upon you.

And his body evaporated away into that swirling teal mist, borne of an unearthly wind....

And I was made to depart the Final Shrine.

Hahhhhhh.

I’d finally done it.

I had finally found every last Shrine.

!

And it wasn’t even over yet.

The Forgotten Temple....

I did not warp straight inside, but elected instead to warp to the Hebra Stable—Snowfield Stable—approach the Forgotten Temple from the outside and Tanagar Canyon.... and DO THE THING PROPER.

Good times.... sailing through that firestorm....

And this time, behind the Rona Kachta Shrine at the back, standing on the platform before the giant Goddess statue.... were Three Treasure Chests.

But first.... I prayed to the Goddess, and received my final heart container.

I was ready now.

“Should I do this twenty-three-is-number-one style?” I asked the room at large.

Nobody really got it.

But.... I didn’t do it that way after all. I would go.... left.... then right.... then center....

Left....

Tunic of the Wild.

This armor was apparently crafted for a hero who travels in the wilds. Strangely enough, it’s just your size.

Right....

Trousers of the Wild.

Legends say these pants were tailored for a hero who travels the wilderness. Strangely enough, they’re the most comfortable pair of pants you’ve ever worn.

Ah, that sounds fabulous.

And center....

Cap of the Wild

According to legend, this cap was crafted for a hero who travels the wild lands. Wearing it just feels so right.

And I could feel the Spirit of the Hero.

I am the Hero.

They looked great. Agh, they looked classic.

They looked like the Oldest School Link you could think of. Dazzling with more pixels. But still so Pure.

Heh, and there were little .... square-tooth dark bands around the sleeve hems. Just a simple design. Very nice.

I looked great.

To Cotera then!

Good old Cotera.

Hee!

The upgrades were:

Cap – 10 Acorns and 2 Farosh scales

Tunic – 10 Acorns and 2 Naydra scales

Trousers – 10 Acorns and 2 Dinraal scales

Somehow acorns were just.... so perfect.

So cute. ^_^

Basic and pure for the boy in the forest.

~

And now.... I have notated all.... and I am.... very tired.

[And as of 1:17am, Sunday, April 30, 2023, I have now finessed all.... save the last battle....]

Do you know what my new job is?

I am a video game tester.

These horizons are definitely more exciting.

Probably because.... I can barely see them.

I am in the bottom of a jungle valley, and every day is a machete salad.

No, I can’t talk about it.

I signed an NDA.

Maybe I will upgrade Link’s clothes.... another day....

And fight Ganon again....

....like I said I would.

                        Good night.

WEST SIDE

Friday, May 10, 2019 ~ 2

WEST SIDE

As I came to the street that led over the castle’s moat, that big natural bridge of earth and stone.... Malice began to drip through the air. And when I came to the big threshold.... my HUD map changed, and I was in the Castle Grounds Proper, and the music turned to the rupturing, tempestuous orchestra.

A mighty gate with two enormous Magnesable doors in a massive masoned frame spanned the width of the bridge. A single Guardian Flyer circled this edifice, sweeping the road below with the beam of its eye.

I just needed to avoid it....

As soon as it passed, I ran to the gate; the Flyer’s scanning did not come near to or brush the actual structure. Even so, I started climbing. Once I’d gotten up on top, I could see there were Guardians everywhere inside.... One Decayed one beyond could see me if I climbed wrong or didn’t keep my head down. I tried to parry its blast, but the distance was too great, my timing was off—

And as I landed back on the ground and then scurried to hide from the circling Flyer again.... “Daruk’s Protection is now ready to roll!” the Goron Champion rumbled in my head.

Convenient.

Hah. Lousy timing, though.

It had been regenerating.

I may need Daruk’s help.

The Decayed ones.... They spot you from such a long way away. But Daruk’s Protection was as good as a Perfect Parry....

I decided I would call on Daruk....

And I did. And it helped.

But there were other Guardians to deal with yet, as I left the Gate and its Flyer and pressed my way inward. Too many for Daruk alone to deal with. I tried parrying again on some of them, and that worked too at times!

I made an effort to follow the road, but was distracted pretty quickly by a tiny, spinning pinwheel up on a balcony.... an Archery Korok.

I climbed up to the wide, battlemented balcony and found it to be backed by a wall of pure Malice, with no eyeball in sight. If there was a way past the dark blockade and into the castle just here, any eyeball guarding it must have been situated on the inside.

The Korok, meanwhile, proved to be RIDICULOUS in its demands—after dispatching all nearby Guardians or hiding from their view, I stood in the optimum spot beside the pinwheel and went through so many arrows trying to land a hit on the Korok’s designated target, which seemed for all the world to be all the way back across town....

But land it I did, eventually, and collected the seed, whereupon I sailed back down to the road.

This was a smaller track than the great broad street that was so large it showed up in the topo, winding its way over the Castle Grounds and up to the Front Door. But it was still wide enough and serviceable; the blasted waste of a hundred years had not robbed the cobblestone of its charm.

I don’t think it’s possible to do that to cobblestone.

The Lesser Road bent to the left, seeming to start a clockwise circuit of the castle, trailing away around the west side through a pox of Malice and eyeballs.... I followed it, but only briefly, and stopped well before reaching any more Malice gates; for near where that first Decayed Guardian had been that had knocked me off the moat bridge gate, there was a doorway on the right side of the track, leading into the castle’s interior....

I went inside, killed some Lizalfos....

This passage looked like it wrapped back around to the right, and I could use it to make my way back to that Malicey balcony from the inside; the HUD seemed to indicate a connection there.... But when I reached the appropriate junction after following the hallway, Malice blocked my way there, too.

The only way left to approach the chamber leading to the Malice Balcony, then, was from the east. The other passage must connect....

I’d find it later.

I went back the only other way to go. Bypassing the door I’d come in, I followed the passage westward and northward until I made my way to the Guards’ Chamber.

More Lizalfos, and one Moblin. I killed them all. I also found another piece from that dark-sheened weapon set, the Royal Guard’s Claymore. Or whatever the big giant swingy one was.

In the Guards’ Chamber, uh muh gush, there were a couple of hidden chests.... One contained a Savage Lynel Shield. I’d take that! The other, dumped in the hollow under a staircase and hidden behind a curtain of dried leafy overgrowth.... was a SHARD OF NAYDRA’S FANG?

WHUUUUTT???

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh....

Okay.

Okay....

But....

Augh, but hadn’t I fired on the poor beasts in too many places already? Visions of shooting the dragons in the mouth spun through my head.... Now that would just be irritating!

Did they drop eyeballs too?

Whatever!

I kept on!

I made my way back to another chamber, another path.... and this one led to a grand circular staircase blocked by Malice.

I killed the eyeball, clearing the way up—this staircase was massive....

Oh but first... I ran back down and checked round the rubble on the other side, the right side—it was piled up thick beneath the ascending circle of stairs—and climbing up over the heaping mounds of it.... I found more treasure up in the cracks near the top. :) Been finding lots of good weapons.... And in this chest.... 3 more Ancient Arrows. I think that’s the third chest here that’s done that for me.

Thank you.

I clambered back down and back around to the left side to ascend the massive spiral staircase in its ponderous clockwise turn....

And of a sudden I was outside. Back in the blustery grey before I knew it.

A Turret took issue at my appearance.

I killed it.

The staircase had come out underneath some kind of huge overhang, some kind of masoned patio roof with a perfectly level ceiling.... The cover from anything overhead for a generous radius was comforting at least, though it still left the lateral directions to deal with.

A very shallow channel-like depression ran through the patio, stretching away in both directions—and then I realized. This was part of the Outside Track—the Lesser Road. There was the Main Road that wound up to the Castle Gate, and then there was this smaller Outside Track that circled all the way around—I could see that now on the 3D overlay in my HUD.

Well, I had started out following it....

I was going to follow the Outside Track again.

As I continued clockwise around the castle, the road took me lower.... I wanted to go higher; I suspected.... that a shrine might be higher, closer to the top, but.... Well, as long as I was here....

I went down lower. Found another entrance to the interior, with Luminous Stone deposits around it. Hmmm.... I wondered if this were one of the ones I had marked on my map in spying the place out from the Elma Knolls. Would I have already walked over it and thus deleted the map marker? Time would tell. Or I guess it wouldn’t.

I went inside....

The name of the place gleamed over my screen, coming into focus....

LOCKUP?

D:

It was a prison....

Or rather a dungeon.

That’s right, I was on the west side, near the Castle Town Prison out on the grounds.... made sense....

What was more, there were Moblins and Lizalfos in here....

Guess they been bad.

....

Man, how awful did a monster have to be for Ganon’s Forces to throw it in the dungeon?

What violent brutes these must have been....

....

The architecture was all hard stone and iron, and a little wood. No fineries for anyone meant to be housed here. After the corner near the entrance, the single corridor continued on a gentle curve, with a row of cells on either side. A very shallow depression ran along the center of the way, sluicing some dismal water drainage away to who knew where.

Malice eyeballs blocked the path, but those were easy enough to dispatch. And I could see what they had been guarding at the first one’s evaporating: there were switches in the central corridor, straddling the sluiceway, that could open the cells on either side, all down the way.

One Silver Moblin was free already, and he and I had it out until I’d laid him out and spoiled his corpse. And then.... I started activating the switches.

Killing them all.... did not feel nice.

They were trapped.

And I an Executioner.

I just wanted to be thorough combing this place....

Well, the Lizalfos were still able to spit at me.

Small consolation.

I killed them all, raiding what spoils and treasures were to be found strewed about their cells. My Master Sword didn’t seem to be running out of energy; it’d been glowing like this for ages, and I’d been killing so many things.

So this was its strength....

Some cells had bombable walls between them, which proved to be the only way to access some of them. And one cell on the left, the castleward side, had a bombable back wall....

I broke through, followed the passageway around; it opened up into a large chamber with some Moblin skulking around.... What was this place....?

But....

No. Not yet.

This wasn’t just some hidden hidey-hole; this was a whole other pathway, and I was not done in the other room yet.

I ran back to the Lockup, slipped around a final dark corner to get to that last, biggest cell, and walked in.

The portcullis slammed shut behind me.

How very OoT.

I’d seen the Stalnox bones. They’d been flopped out in the center of the floor of the big round chamber, bleach-white against the dark stone, and they had stunk of miniboss.

They came to life now.... and I put them down again, with a flurry of arrows to the great, bulbous, black eye, slicing the thing into evil oblivion with my sword at the end, as it popped out and bounced grotesquely around....

There was a treasure chest now, as well as a signpost in the back, engraven into a stone marker. Had these been here all along? The room was quite dark....

The stone read:

- Test of the Royal Guard -

Strike down the giant foe to become

recognized as a knight of the kingdom.

Well....

I opened the chest.

There was that You Get The Thing Music and....

*GASP*

WHAT?

A Hylian Shield?

I mean I had wondered what could be in here, but this was.... I hadn’t expected....

“A shield passed down through the Hyrulean royal family, along with the legend of the hero who wielded it. Its defensive capabilities and durability outshine all other shields.”

Does this.... Is this shield....?

My Master Sword—The Master Sword had been staying so strong. While it had shone. Here in the dark castle. In the Malicey air that seemed to activate its resilience.

Does this shield....

Is this shield unbreakable?

Its strength was 120. Shield Guard Up +30. What does it mean?

Oh my gosh....

Was this shield unbreakable?

I almost didn’t want to test it.

....And after typing a flurry of notes for the log I came back to the game and....

....

Oh, my inventory was full. |D

I dropped the Lizal shield I’d been using, and opened the chest again.

Got the music a second time. Nice.

Now I had the shield....

But heck if I was ever gonna use it.

The Entry With No Shrines

The Entry With No Shrines

I warped to the Akkala Tower.

Time for more exploring.

I sailed down, moved into the trees and cleaned out the Torin Wetland—that waterlogged version of the Valley of Terror. Aside from all the dead and rusted Guardians in there, there were also two crawling Guardian Stalkers and one stationary Decayed one. I’d wanted to practice my range parrying the Guardians’ attacks; I was doing okay I thought. But it was still easiest to time it when they were right next to me.

When there was nothing awful left to slay I hiked back up the road and cleaned out the Akkala Parade Ground ruins. There was a Hinox in there, and it was good enough to drop some GUTS for me, which brought me up to seven. I could upgrade some clothes with that....

I was exploring around, exploring around, sniffing into all the various corners of the leafy Parade Ground court, when.... I heard someone in trouble.

But there was no one nearby.

But I was deep in the shadow the Akkala Citadel and its bridges, towering above me. The person must have been....

“Revari.... ONEGAI,” I geeked, and the Rito Champion’s spirit took me up in a trice to the bridge ruins where a lone Hylian man was cornered, beset by Bokoblins.

I fought them off, and the man, Neil, thanked me, and gave me an elixir of some kind.

He told me about the Akkala Citadel. Evidently it had acted as a last stronghold of a sort. It was said to be unassailable. But when the Castle fell, the army here, originally meant to protect Akkala, had no royalty to lead them, and the concentrated attack from the out of control Guardians brought it to ruin.

“Hyrule may very well have made its last stand here,” he said, or something like it.

Hm.

I paraglided or galed my way over the broken bridge, over to the Citadel side, to sport with the Flyer making its rounds about the lower level, and took it down after only a few mishaps.

The Flyers were hard, but.... I was getting better, I thought.

Okay. I had enough Hinox guts, and Mija was just over there across the way. I sailed over to see her, keeping my eyes open for shrines all the while, but.... nothing.

Mija upgraded my Barbarian Armor to the max. YES.

From there.... Hhhhhh I considered messing with some Lizalfos down by the Rist Peninsula, but.... ehhh, decided against it.

Instead I warped to Gut Check Rock and traveled thence up and around the volcano to....

That Skeleton.

THE ELDIN GREAT SKELETON.

WHY DOESN’T IT HAVE A SHRINE?

I searched for clues. Anything. Something that could trigger the appearance of a Shrine. I scoured the adjacent ashfalls and cliffsides. I climbed over the nearby rocks. I ran along the skeleton from nose to tail-tip. I crawled in its giant eye-sockets and planted bombs. Nothing.

....

Well it had worked in Ocarina of Time.

....

But I was just having no luck.

Well, different luck—for there was a music and a sudden wind....

Dinraal!

I tried and failed to get another claw from the dragon. Nuts!

Eh I went and killed the Lynel next door. Silver. Did pretty well.

Came back and killed the bad guy camp under the skeleton—

WHY IS THERE NO SHRINE?

....I may never know.

Or it wouldn’t be any time soon at least. Because now.... it was time for sushi.

Hahh, the Eldin Great Skeleton was a hard place to get to, but.... ehhh I would just warp to.... somewhere.... and save.

I’d warp to my house. No. The Deku Tree.

I’d warp to the Deku Tree’s Navel.

And I did.

Sushi.

Ice cream.

Great afternoon with Mom. ^_^ <3

When I picked up the game again I did a little shopping and cooking at the Deku Tree’s Navel, and some more of the same at Rito Village. I just wanted to buy some ingredients that I couldn’t get out in the field, like wheat and sugar cane and butter.

Siara was around, and she’d been interested to see the amusing clothing-upgrade animations. So I warped to the Great Fairy Tera in the desert and set her to work on my long-neglected Climber’s Shirt, which I’d been retaining at low level for just this purpose.

The animations were cute and Siara laughed, from the glitter-blowing to the head-bopping to the face-kissing to.... well, whatever it is they do on the fourth one.

And I finally got the perk for the Climbing Set, dimly registering that my climbing stamina usage was reduced or something to that end.

But my mind was already back on shrines.

I scanned the map, looking for triple-trees. Those anomalous little mini-copses of three trees or bushes or cacti standing in perfect, orderly little lines. Did those point to shrines?

I took stock; most of the things these formations pointed to were easy to find. There, that one pointed to a shrine, which had been hidden.... But that one in the desert pointed to Pocky’s Shrine, which was never hidden. But THERE, on that waterfall.... Where did that point to?

I warped to Faron to check it out, and couldn’t find a shrine. But I did find an ore cache that had been hidden.

Maybe the triple-trees pointed to secrets, and not necessarily just shrines.

Still, that desert one....

Hmm.

Running out of gas I worked my way over to the Highland Stable. I visited Malanya, who reported that I’m good with horses. Cool.

Took out Dragmire from the stable and rode to Kakariko. Didn’t stay at the inn, though. Just.... saved and put it to bed.

On the Devil's Doorstep

Waking of Saturday, March 23, 2019

Looking for Shrines.
Woodland Tower out to the Elma Knolls and down below the northernmost Sheikah Sealing Pillar about the Castle. The air was Malicelike in there. Eugh. No shrines though.
Went up and killed the Lynel below Mount Drena. Aced it pretty good. Checked out Mekar Island again. Lots of baddies. Yowch. No shrines though.
Running around....
You know what? I thought, I’m gonna just try and fly from the Elma Knolls to Hyrule Castle.
And I did, with Revali’s help. Sailing, sailing through the airs I planned to land partway up the north Pillar. I was ready to cling onto it and start climbing. Oh my gosh I saw a Guardian perched on top. Was it alive? Was it dead? I would find out. Closer, closer.... ready to grab it and climb, aaand....
I PASSED RIGHT THROUGH IT?
UM.
OVER THE MOAT NOW.
HEADING FOR ONE OF THE CASTLE-ISLAND’S PLATFORMS....
I SANK THROUGH IT AND STOPPED.
I WAS IN THE ROCK UNSEEN. COULDN’T MOVE, COULDN’T TURN THE CAMERA. COULDN’T EVEN PAUSE.
AND SOME REAL INTENSE MUSIC STARTED PLAYING AND MY HUD MAP BECAME A 3D OVERLAY. LIKE UNTO A DIVINE BEAST.

I tried everything, but I just could not dislodge myself from the bleak black stone. Eventually I just hit the Home menu button to get out of the game.
Back in, and I was back on the Elma Knolls. I had that Dragonbone Boko Club thingy, so I’d already visited Mekar Island. That was good.
Hhhrmm but I needed a better approach....
I went to Woodland Stable, looking for Gotter and Parcy. But I couldn’t find them... Weren’t they here?
But I did find Molo. The Yolo guy.
He said there were some docks on the north side of the castle. And rumors about a mysterious shrine nearby?
THERE IS A SHRINE.
I’M GOING TO FIND IT.
But.... where are—?
I checked my sidequest menu. Gotter and Parcy were at Riverside Stable. I went there, talked to them.... Gotter just wanted to try the food, the old royal recipes. But Parcy told me about all the various ways to get into the castle.
I tried her Sheikah method. Approached from the east, near Mount Caramel or Mount Crumpet or whatever it was called [Crenel Hills], crossed Helmhead Bridge. Killed the Guardian. There were two Guardians on that island....
I was looking for her secret tunnel but I didn’t see it. So I waited for nightfall and.... There. The luminous stones. I see it now.
The tunnel was there. But.... with so many Guardian Flyers, the remaining space between still felt so treacherous.... So close and yet so far. How could I get in safely?
Well.... the night is young, I thought. Let’s try the Elma Knolls flight again.

It’s always a long paraglide and jog from the Woodland Tower to get to the Elma Knolls.
Or at least.... to get to where you want to be.
Too many trips to Mekar Island....

I was lining myself up just at the edge near the moat this time, not higher up the knolls and with no plans for an extra Revali boost, when three Stalmoblins popped up and start chatting it up with me—I have become an incredibly good quick-change artist. And then I was waiting for the blasted rain to clear, just so I could see where to land....
There were plenty of hampering circumstances, but at length the air did clear up and between my new Stal-friends I could scope in on the castle and see where I wanted to go—and there were explodable rocks there! Is that where the shrine is?
I leapt off.
Please let the ground be solid.
....
And it was. My boots connected, and glicked as they ought. I landed near the rocks, ready to call on Ja Baij.
But time stopped first.
There was a cinematic: The Swirling Calamity Ganon whirled up in a roaring ferocious, swinging about the castle, raging, roaring, raving, ravening.... mouth agape.... Oh gosh would it come and just eat me because I approached the castle wrong?
But no.... As the camera pulled back, trembling in the ragged tear of its orbit, Malice and dust stinging its eye.... there at the center of the storm, there in the middle, shining through the stone of the towers and parapets, in the center.... A brilliant, penetrating Golden Light.
The Princess was still there. Her holy power still held.
And on that heartening note, the cinematic ended, and I was free to move. I blew up the rocks. Treasure chest. I opened the chest. Rupees.
‘Kay cool.
I went clockwise over the dark stone, toward the east side, bent around a rugged corner and killed a decayed Guardian, and made my way to the tunnel by the glowy stones....
The East Passage.

It was all crumbled in here. Dust and grit and rubble strewn everywhere. The walls seemed rough-hewn, though I wondered how much of it was by design and how much by the ruin of time.
The music had muted as well. The same desperate progression as had sounded outside still floated hauntingly through these inner passages, only now performed by an organ running on minimal stops. The brass, tempestuous percussion and keening strings had stayed outside.
Malice still smoked through the air, choking the passage.
Keese.
They fluttered around up ahead, in a slightly wider spot, not yet aware of my presence.
I readied a weapon.
Oh, the Master Sword.... was glowing.
The hammering it made when it smote the Keese out of the air!
This place made my sword bare its teeth in righteous ferocity.
I followed the passage to where it widened slightly. A mine cart?
....
I didn’t want to take a mine cart.
No, I was become a church mouse once again, senses flared wide, stepping my way forward. I went slowly. Slowly. So very very slowly.
The railtrack had risen up on the left side of the widening tunnel; on the right side was a shallow pond—more of a little puddle in the ground, really. Dingy against the cracks between wall and floor, like seepage from somewhere. A large ice block stood in the midst.
Four fire arrows reduced it to nothing, and out came a Korok!
Even here. Even here they were hiding.
It was strange....
Further down the passage, I finally came to a Malice eyeball, beyond which I thought I could hear.... Lizalfos....
After I shot the eyeball, I could definitely hear Lizalfos. Quickchange!
These Masks are so handy.
There were Red Lizalfos everywhere. No, not red, they must have been Black. I dispatched them as I could isolate them, and they only dropped normal tails. Black Lizalfos.
I killed them and cleared the way until the path rounded to the right and widened in earnest in a large, round chamber, braced with heavy beams.
What was clearly a Talus sat dormant and obvious in the center.
It seemed to be the end of the passage, except for the telltale lack of a ceiling that I could see in the chamber.... The walls seemed climbable enough, and there didn’t seem to be any other way to go.
Hhhmhm but I didn’t want to have rocks thrown at me while I climbed.... with that Talus in the way....
....
All right then.
I killed it. And where it had sat, the ground was ruptured with escaping air—an updraft.
Even better.
I rode the current up the shaft. And up above I came to.... another chamber and then.... the Library?
That’s what it was called.
But everything was so smashed and ruined....
It was awful. It must have been so lofty and stately once, light shining in, such rich, dark tables, a beautiful place for study.... Now there was a great gaping hole high up in one of the long walls, as well as some of the ceiling above—a dismal drizzle poured in from outside. The short walls each had an ornate stairway up to the upper walkways and more bookshelves. But one of these stairways was partly collapsed, and the red carpets lining them were all frayed and moth-eaten. Books lay strewn over the tile, dog-eared to heck and back and now loved only by spiders.
It was sad.
More Lizalfos prowled and patrolled here and there. I slowly cleared out the room, luring them away one by one with my Mask until I could put them down out of sight of their companions.
But partway through my sweep, in the midst of the ruin and cascades of debris, I found something down on the ground level, on a table that must have been handsome once: an open book. A recipe book!
Inside was a recipe of the Princess’ Favorite: Fruit Cake. It consisted of any two fruit + Tabantha wheat + sugar cane. Apparently, according to the following notes, it helped to clear the head for better concentration on ancient technology research or something.... Heh, interesting....
Clear, clear, Lizalfos, Lizalfos, Mask, Mask—I continued to sweep the room. And on an upper balcony-walk, I found a second book. This one contained a recipe for the Chancellor’s Favorite: Monster Cake. It called for Monster Extract + Tabantha wheat + sugar cane + goat butter. So that was the proper recipe.... Further notes read that it was a dangerous dish that made the head fuzzy and might even encourage the formulation of evil schemes!
What was up with these dishes?? XD
That was two of them anyway. Did I need more? Would there be any more? I’d been pretty thorough over the Library, and I continued to look hard.... but I didn’t find any more recipes. That was Gotter’s errand done, then.
I didn’t want to get too far ahead.... I could see the pathways branching off the Library on my map, but it took a moment for me to realize they were hidden behind some some big metal cabinets. Magnesing one of these out of the way I uncovered a crooked, rubble-strewn, downward-leading passageway that led to the Docks.
More Keese, more Lizalfos. And....
There was a big space where I thought something like another Talus would be, as there had been in the other passageway.
But.... it was empty. All except for—
That giant brazier.
!!
The Shrine!
I backed up, and shot a fire arrow into the brazier.
UP came the Saas Ko’sah Shrine!
It was a Major Test of Strength with no stone pillars for cover, but only big magnetic blocks I could toggle up out of the floor with Magnesis! I’d seen David do this kind of trial....
I did it without a hit.
Once I came back out I proceeded down a ramp to the docks themselves, low on the moat in the huge, cavernous chamber. Faint light shone from beyond a bend in the immense stone passageway, dappling the water; it must have led to the outside.
There were more Lizalfos down on the docks, and I almost went to deal with the two obvious ones.... before I caught the movement of the other. I changed course and instead went up the earthen walkway around the edge of the huge chamber, and took out the sniper first. The one who would have seen me get up to mischief with the others. Dropped a pretty nice bow and a decent bundle of arrows, that one.
Once his watchful eyes were no longer a concern, it was down to the docks, where I killed the other two.
This left the run of the place to me. There were weapons and things scattered everywhere around this place, all among this ruin, boxes and barrels full of supplies.... It was a treasure trove of junk. And there were some good Hearty Salmon swimming near the piles—those were good fish.
Once I’d cleared out the Docks, I made my way back to the Library.
I’d seen to Gotter, but.... what about Parcy? Where was this Royal Guard’s Gear she was so interested in? It had to be close.... right?
I went up to the other end of the Library, the far end; there had been an upper exit there, at the top of the carpeted stairs. This led to more chambers, more Lizalfos.... and a long, long hallway. And still more Lizalfos.
The walls were cracked and crumbled here and there. Rubble spilled in huge cascades. Was the red carpet still so red by dint of its quality? Or was that just the glow of the constant Malice through the air?
There had been so many Lizalfos all throughout the castle that I was almost taken off guard when, near the end of the long hallway, I heard a sudden Moblin grunt.
A large set of double doors stood cracked slightly open; I could see movement beyond.... and I could tell that it could see me too.
I dashed aside in a tense flutter before whatever lurked within could take too much notice of me though, and quickly changed to a more appropriate headpiece....
Now a Moblin myself, I edged cautiously through the crack between the doors and into the next chamber, where the Moblin was. He seemed to be the only baddie around, which was good—it’s tricky when there are multiple breeds; Kilton’s Masks could only fool so much.
He held a huge sword.
I killed him.
And looked around....
The room was not draped in so much finery as the hallway had been; the surfaces were more bare, warm and wooden, the floor of finely cobbled stone. It was some kind of Guards’ chamber. And there were beautiful weapons everywhere.
And there!
Those were different. My pictobox didn’t recognize those.
The Royal Guard’s Shield. The Royal Guard’s Bow. They were sleek and dark, and looked like they’d be more at home under cover of darkness than anywhere else. Or infiltrating the dens of things that preferred such.
So I made choices. I dropped. (As my pockets were full.) And I picked up these new weapons. They evidently were ancient Sheikah Technology designed to fight Calamity Ganon, and they were strong and effective, but not very durable.
But surely there had to be a sword as well?
There was a broad staircase in the chamber, running up a couple of walls to a wooden balcony. I made my way up until I reached a part where a large chunk of the steps had busted with age or rot. There was nothing for it but to climb the wall.... higher....
The next passageway leading off the upper Guards’ Chamber was smaller, cold and stony, and seemed to bend and twist all around on itself. And it was lined with a series of blocked doorways that looked tantalizingly explodable.
They were.
Moving slowly, cautiously, I blew the first one up. Inside the hollow was a large and mighty armored statue, resting its hands on the hilt of a Rusty Claymore, the bladetip at its foot.
It was very impressive-looking, but I left it there.
Oh, but I did take the seed from the Korok hovering in the corner. Even here.
There were so many weapons about.... The next hollow HAD A LIZALFOS AND I WAS STILL IN THE MOBLIN MASK—I gasped as he saw me, as he recognized me. Gave me a start but I could take him! I ran back quick and killed him before he could breathe to another soul that an intruder walked the castle grounds.
Hooooohh.
It was finally in the last hollow.... that I found the Royal Guard’s Sword. In a pedestal.
An ancient Sheikah replica of the Sword to Seal the Darkness. It looked just like the Master Sword, only darker, just like the other Royal Guard’s things had been.
But I noticed that the hilt was backwards. The wings.... angled gripward instead of bladeward. That combined with the menacing sheen of the darker metals used.... gave it an almost perverse look.
Replicate the Sword that Seals the Darkness?
.... It just....
Hh.
....
I took it.
This was Parcy’s Royal Guard’s Series. I didn’t think there could be armor involved.
This was it.
I was going back now.
I was going back....
But what was behind that other passage off the Library, leading up? It had been blocked by Malice, and the attendant Eyeball was on the other side, but I wondered if I could....
I drew a bow, aimed carefully.... and shot the Malice Eyeball. And what do you know? It worked from behind! I’d shot it right through those goop-strands....
The dark barriers disintegrated, and now the rainy outside and the bony glow of naked rubble glared in an off-white rectangle at the top of the steps. I went up NOPE! NOPE. THERE’S A GUARDIAN. GOING BACK INSIDE NOW.
Hm.
....
I had Gotter’s and Parcy’s things.
....
I’m leaving.
But I couldn’t warp from this map....
To the Docks then.
I would swim out.
And I did.
My paraglider gave me a headstart out of range of a Guardian’s laser and I was plashing through the choppy water before I registered the sudden change in volume.
The music was more orchestral outside; I’d forgotten it was like that, with all my sneaking around the inner parts. It was still the same progression, but now pronounced again by a doomful, desperate brass section, and punctuated underneath by that iron-sharp snare drum that tasted like spikes at your back and on your heels.

And I heard it again.

As I had heard it while I was sneaking about inside the castle.
At times the meter broke apart, the theme turning to a fit of asymmetrical hammering like the darkness inside a mad dog’s head. And yet underneath.... That dissonant, ascending organ line....
He was still serenading her.
Still serenading his captive.
And when the meter was allowed back to a semblance or order, she would answer, with her Ancient Lullaby, perpetually rocking the balance of power in a Dreadful Dialogue.

I swam, I swam.... waiting for the map to change....
I swam, I swam....
Malice still swirled hellishly all around me as I kicked and paddled for the northern shore, the current sweeping me carelessly away....
If I could just reach the shores of the Elma Knolls....
And still the nightmare music played.
Swim, swim.... swim, swim....
I swim....

And of a sudden the dripping crimson dissipated and the air cleared. The Malice evaporated. My HUD showed the normal map of the countryside.
And I made it.
Bedraggled back onto the shore.
That would be a good artwork.
Here in the rain at night as the moon goes down above me.
Unscathed from the belly of the beast.

Angled low from the east, to see the back of the castle on the left, and the high western sky in the middle, and maybe the muddy rise of the Knolls on the right. Link on hands and knees, sopping wet in his Zora Armor, like I was.
The sky and the moon all warped with pink, like the bending air of a heat-haze, or the rainbow sheen of motor oil on the ground.
....
I think I’ll get to Riverside by myself.
Woodland. Woodland I mean.
I’ll get to the Woodland Stable on foot.

Aquas and LousySpy and the Monster Born Of Darkness

Waking of Saturday, January 26, 2019 ~ 2

This had been a long time coming.
I warped to the Dueling Peaks, took out Knight from the Stable, and rode him to Hateno. Saving a few people along the way, of course.... I swear, that stretch of road....
I made it to Hateno, and found Bolson and his crew. Still sitting out by that wok beside the old empty house.
....
Hateno was one of the first places I had visited; Bolson was an early snake in my life. But now I had traveled the world, or at least the country, and seen just about every habitation there was to see.... just on the vague off chance there might be.... someone else making a similar offer.... somewhere.... Though in my heart as time went on.... I think I had known.... there wouldn’t be.
The Deku Tree’s Navel was homely enough, and Pepp was kind to keep a bed there just for me. But.... I was no Korok....
And these Champions’ weapons....
And Hateno still left a dreary, unloving taste in my mouth.
But....
....
It was time.
I had seen the world, and it was time.

I approached Bolson, and I finished what I had started so long ago, and I bought the house. I shelled out the three thousand rupees. I had seen that amount come and go and come again in my purse, but now.... I was finally putting it where I’d meant to put it eventually.
I bought the house.
And Bolson was.... taken aback! By me, spending so much at such an age! He just found it so.... studly.
Lol Bolson is so gay.
And so the house was mine. As was a weapon mount Bolson and crew had left in there that didn’t get sold. “Consider it a housewarming gift,” Bolson said.
A weapon mount.... Hmmm.... I thought I’d seen those in David’s Hateno House....
After the transaction, it was decided that Hudson, one of Bolson’s men, was going to Akkala. Bolson Construction was expanding.
Well that was sudden. :c
I said goodbye to him and bade him good luck.... and he told me to take care of myself.... Nice guy, Hudson. I always liked him.... when I spoke to him. He was always the most cordial.
He even had his own little.... music.... some gentle musical theme.... as he walked off and away into the fade-out.
Aww. :( I’d miss that guy.
Hahhhh.
....
But for NOW....
....
I WENT TO CHECK OUT MY HAUS.
....
I ran inside and it was so bare. But it was mine.
“This is my house,” I said to David.
The wooden floors gaped dustily up at me as I pounded around in the silence.
This is my house,” I said again.
“....”
“THIS.... IS MY HOUSE. THIS IS MY HOUSE!” I started singing. XD
And David actually recognized it and rolled his eyes hard.
“WON’T YOU GET OUT OF MY HOUSE? THIS IS.... THIS IS MY.... HOUSE THISISMY HOUSE.... WON’T YOU GET OUT OF MY HOUSE—I’LL GIVE YOU.... A GOOD SPELL, FOR YOU TO USE. SO YOU CAN JUMP ON MY ROOFS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT. THIS IS MY HOUSE. PLEASE, GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, IT’S—NOT YOUR HOUSE. I’VE GOT A BIG BEARD! Out of my house.... out.... Ah, don’t stab me....”
....
I don’t think I actually sang the whole thing for/at David but I sure as heck ain’t gonna leave it out of the log.
I ran happily around my new house a few more times, up to the loft and down again, around and around before the initial excitement wore down pretty hard.
Um, the house was all bare. It didn’t even have a door.
I’d finally mounted Mipha’s spear up on the wall, and that was something, but.... where was everything else? David’s house was much fuller than this....
I ran out the doorway to look for Bolson again, getting halfway across the little bridge before stopping and.... hmmmm turning back and grabbing Mipha’s spear again; I didn’t like leaving it alone in a house with no door.
I ran to go find Bolson, but the evening was falling fast and I didn’t find him.
But I did find Kilton.
!
And I remembered.
Now that I’d beaten another Divine Beast....
He should have something new!
Now I could finally see whatever it was that David had seen.... I had guessed and guessed that time, hoping for answers just as much as not. Was it a Hinox Mask? A Guardian Mask? Some kind of Malice-Immunity Potion? But David never said....
I approached the little man in his balloon now....
Kilton was very excited. He’d outdone himself this time. He had created the ultimate monster gear. “I’m actually a bit terrified of myself right now,” he said.
Oh my gosh WHAT IS IT?
He called it.... the dark series.
What?
And he said when I put on this ultimate monster camouflage, I might just become a monster myself. “Have fun being hunted for your organs,” he tells me.
WHAT?
He also said that I might find myself able to move faster at night. “Not sure how that worked out,” he says, “but....” He trailed off.
Oh my gosh....
WHAT IS IT, KILTON?
I clicked through his dialogue until he finally finished his spiel, and I got into his items. Scrolled down.... down.... down....
And....
OH MY GOSH IT WAS A DARK LINK OUTFIT.
Dark Link!
And I studied it a bit more.... “OH MY GOSH THOSE ARE OOT’S BRACERS!” I said to David.
“Who’s Oot?”
“This is OoT’s outfit!”
Who’s Oot?
“Ocarina of Time.”
“Oh.”
I knew them by the broad banding over the forearms, and the boot-flaps, and the tunic-lapels, and the shaping of the bandolier and the broadness of the belt.
OoT!
Kilton said he’d designed these with a monster born of shadow in mind.
Uh muh gush....
What an enormous upwelling of nostalgia.
So I started trading him monster bits for his Mon currency. Fortunately I had over 400 Lizalfos Talons and Chuchu Jellies, over 300 Bokoblin Fangs and plenty of Ancient Screws and things.... I made exactly as much as I needed: 3,997 Mon.
And I bought the Dark Tunic for 999 mon.
And I bought the Dark Trousers for 999 mon.
And finally.... I bought the Dark Hood for 1,999 mon.
And I put them all on and....
Oh....
My gosh....
Well that was right creepy.
I was Dark Link!
....
I swear he bore his teeth more.... when he wore this Dark Series....
So I ran to find some townsfolk to scare. But they only jumped and cowered and then spoke to me normally.
And I finally found Bolson! Inside one of the houses in the morning just before he woke up. I just had to wait a minute because he couldn’t be bothered until he got back to the Hylian home.
And shortly, but not shortly enough.... he did. And I spoke to him. And he could see that I was looking at him like I was displeased, or wanted him to keep working on the house—because I did.
So he said he’d finish making it a real home for 5,000 rupees.
You sneakthief!
“But for you, we’ll just start at 100.”
Uh huh, of course you will....
So I spent that morning having him build me things. First, a door, for one hundred rupees.
I forked over the cash, and he called Karson, and in the ensuing blackout I was happily amused to hear that it sounded like the two of them SERIOUSLY got to work! With much manly grunting and huffing and puffing and yelling and guttural shouts all to the rhythm of the sounds of manual construction! XD And when the scenery faded back in, my house had a brand new door. Very nice.
And for a hundred rupees more, a bed up in the loft. And another hundred rupees for some lighting over the main floor. And with each job, the same riotous blackout occurred, Bolson and Karson both yelling and sawing and hammering and yelling some more until the job was done.
That was it for the installation projects. Next I had him add to the mounts on my wall, and he charged me for each one. Two more weapon mounts on the far wall, three shield mounts on the right wall below the loft, and three bow mounts on the left wall. Not in that order, but that’s where they appeared.
With the mounts—and the door—in place, I mounted Mipha’s Spear, and the Ceremonial Trident, along with the stylish Forest Dweller’s Shield, and my trusty, trusty Phrenic Bow. They would be safe and secure in this house. And kept from cumbering me out on the field.
When I was out of mounting options and other interior projects, I had Bolson do exterior work. Even in the rain. Oh I first moved Knight into the roofed stall off the west side of the house and out of the wet. (He and I looked amazing together while I wore the Dark Series.) But I still made Bolson work, despite the cutscenes being robbed of their vibrancy in the silver haze. Plant flowers! Plant trees! (I could hardly spot the wide-angle differences in the downpour.) And finally, A sign with my name on it!
And Bolson and Karson hollered their way through it all, as the last drops finally began to peter out.
The sign stood neatly on its own little pedestal just to the left of the path from the bridge to my door; and it read, I could see after I’d studied it for a moment:

MASTER LINK
                  PRESENTED BY SAKURDA BUILDERS

And when all that had been done, Bolson said “YOU... HOUSING MONSTER!” Or something like it. “You got everything?”
And since I had worked him for all he was worth, he threw in some free furniture for me. (“Karson! Look alive!”) And that.... was that.
And Bolson and Karson left off.
And my house was a home.
And the sidequest Hylian Homeowner flashed across my screen.... Complete.
My gosh, how long had it been?
I didn’t know.

Home complete.... I rode Knight back to Dueling Peaks. Still in my Dark Getup. And the Bokoblins we passed.... leapt out in blatant attacks.
Um.... they didn’t seem very fooled.
I asked David if bad guys did this when he wore the Dark Suit, but he hadn’t bought this set. It was expensive.
Some field research was in order it seemed. I got to Dueling Peaks, boarded Knight, and ran down the road west between the peaks toward the Bokoblin camp. They were all asleep.
So I woke them up with a whistle. Or... did I? They seemed to come to before I could blow. Hmm.
And they all attacked me.
What the heck, Kilton?
One of them hit me with an arrow, and it HURT! D:<
Good gravy that took off a lotta hearts!
Under further attack, I warped away mid-stun to Cotera. Maybe she could upgrade the stuff.
But it was unupgradable.
-_- What in the heck, Kilton?
The ensemble.... didn’t seem to have any good perks.... that I could immediately discern....
But getting another idea I kept it on anyway, and started having the Great Fairy cast her upgrades on my spare Flamebreaker Armor. I had the materials and I just wanted to see something....
I had her upgrade until the kiss. And the little cinematic gave me a clear view of Link’s red-eyed, black-skinned, dark, evil, behooded face.
Oh....
Yeah he definitely bore his teeth more in this outfit....
Sneering. Leering. Narrow-eyed menacing.
My gosh.

Well that was nightmarish.
I reloaded without saving to just before the Great Fairy because I wanted to keep my Smotherwing Butterflies.

Well.

Now what.

....

As long as I was in Kakariko, I went and tried it on the Guardian out back. The Dark Series.
But nope, the Guardian still saw me and got mad. Piano all riled up.
Hm.
I was running out of gas.
....
I warped to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab and visited Purah. Scared her and Symin with the Dark Suit all right! Symin says—(uh?)—that I can add pictures to my Compendium for a price.... huh, not sure if I knew that before....
Paraglided to.... my house. Scared Bolson on the way.
I have a house now.
And it does look nice.
And it is inviting.
I changed out of my Dark Suit and into my Champion’s tunic, Hylian Hood and Hylian Trousers.
It was 1:10 in the afternoon.
I slept in my very own bed for the first time, until the morning.
Good night.

And at church the next morning, Shelene and I sang. A beautiful song about how by serving the needy, we truly serve Christ, and enrich our own lives as well. And throughout the rest of the cracks between church, women kept coming up to me, and I assume to Shelene as well, to tell me that our singing had moved them to tears.
