Seven Prayers

Waking of Saturday, January 26, 2019

My last practice with Shelene and Jane went well.
We women are better singers.

jghjrlghrjlgjhrlea!!ASDFFGGHJKL;

It was time to pray.

After I awoke at Pepp’s, I warped to the Forgotten Temple, deep in the folded land at the head of Tanagar Canyon.
I first prayed before the Giant Goddess Statue, towering tall and smiling with her serene hands resting clasped over her belly. The powerful, imposing figure seemed to want and deserve being first.
And the Goddess granted me a Stamina Vessel.
From there I warped to.... but I felt no connection to Hateno Village.
I warped to Kakariko Village, placidly nestled in the mountains north of the Dueling Peaks, in the shadow of the Pillars of Levia.
I then prayed before the Little Koi Pond Goddess Statue, which was one of the smaller, more simplistic renditions, molded with the suggestion of praying hands. This one wore a little pinafore smock like an apron.
And the Goddess granted me another Stamina Vessel.
And, “Your being overflows with vigor. There is no need to further enhance your stamina,” the Goddess imparted to me. Or some such words.
That was three full wheels of stamina now.
That was what David had....
Following my old footsteps, from there I warped to Zora’s Domain, secluded in the fountains of the rugged blue mountains beyond the wetlands.
I then prayed before the Little Balcony Goddess Statue, which was unadorned, but held a prominent position before King Dorephan’s chamber.
Of course, as David had done, I asked for another Stamina Vessel just to see what would happen.... but the Goddess only reminded me once again that my being already overflowed with vigor, and there was no need.
So I asked aright, and She granted me a Heart Container instead.
From there I took a brief moment to put on my protective suit before warping to Goron City, high on the scorching western flanks of the mighty Death Mountain, crusted between claws of rock and lava flows, its air all flecked with embers.
I then prayed before the Little Crowned Goddess Statue, which was ensconced in a rough-cut shrine of rugged stone near Big Boss Bludo’s house. This one wore a bright yellow, three-pointed crown on its head! The make of it seemed to glow....
And the Goddess granted me another Heart Container.
From there I warped to Gerudo Town, the bustling oasis, jewel in the sands, and had to stop to put on some different clothing before entering town. I bought some arrows before finding my way back to the Forgotten Court and visiting with Muava.
I then prayed before the Little Court Goddess Statue, left alone in its quietude with only garbage and lost things for company, but no less faithful in its prayerful rendition, no less a conduit for worship.
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.
From there I warped to Rito Village, stacked in beautiful wooded seclusion in Tabantha’s piney wilderness, over breezy trails loved by the sun.
I then prayed before the Little Flowered Goddess Statue, set in its alcove in the Neck, adorned with comely cloths and wearing a circlet of flowers on its head and with flowers before its feet. Ahhh, this one is my favorite. :)
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.
And that was.... two statues of magnitude or personal importance.... plus the statues in the lands of the four peoples I had visited.... which made six....
Just one more.
And from there.... finally.... I warped to the Shrine of Resurrection, far away and back and long ago on the Great Plateau, back where it all began, hidden away in the cave so secluded, full of steps and barriers I had halted to climb when I was naked and weak as a kitten.
I rushed out into the sunlight quick as anything now in my rattling gear and thick clothing, and made my way to the Temple of Time, past the paltry Red Bokoblins around whom I used to be so cautious and calculated. One cut was all it took to bring them down now.
Past the crumbling walls and in the hallowed space inside, where the moss and the grass grew as soft as a prayer, and the air moved in glimmering haunts fit for fairies, I then prayed before the Temple Goddess Statue, standing in the midst of its attendant statuettes and smiling that same serene smile under a shaft of heavenly light.
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.

Seven Prayers. That would do.
I was stronger now.

Then....
Hateno Village.

I had unfinished business.

SNOW DAY 3: WRESTING THE BEST ERE THE QUEST TO THE WEST

Waking of Friday, November 16, 2018

FOR A TEST PER BEHEST OF THE GODDESS MOST BLESSED.

That’ssss a little carried away.

BECAUSE I DO NOT JEST WHEN I SAY I’M HER GUEST
‘CAUSE THIS WORLD IS ALL MESSED; I’VE KILLED MANY A PEST

I don’t even like rap, what am I doing

*AHEM*

I put on all my cold clothes and was ready to go back to Hebra to try out shield surfing and I warped tooooo.... Mount Lanayru.
I sailed down to the Lanayru Road; couldn’t see a thing on the way down for the snowclouds....
But I was gonna get me some hornshard.
It took forever. The dragons never show up when you’re looking for them. I ran around looking for other useful things in the meanwhile, and found the most enormous Korok circle I had ever seen. By which I mean the circle itself was typical, and not extraordinary in shape or pattern. It was just made of BOULDERS. BIG rocks! I grunted and huffed and puffed to roll the one from the center over to the empty spot in the ring.
Whoof.
Well played, Korok. Well played.
I also took the opportunity to kill a Blue Hinox, and that so quickly that it was dead before its music even started! By the time its life bar showed up, only a tenth of it remained, if that. Two more hits with whatever dragon-bone Big Stick I was wielding, and he was down. It’s astonishing what Urbosa’s Fury can accomplish when I wear my Barbarian Armor....
But these my diversions were not without their own frustrations—like HOW does a 300-foot dragon sneak past you? TWICE?
I tried to be more attentive, and was rewarded with some scales, but EVENTUALLY.... I did get a hornshard!
That was two hornshards. I could have upgraded my Champion’s Tunic if I wanted to.
But....
I didn’t.
I just went to the Plateau to pray.
I went all the way to the Temple of Time again, before I remembered that I only had 11 Spirit Orbs and I wanted to wait until I had 12. Just one more....
I went back to Pepp’s. I almost went straight into the Deku Tree’s Navel, but I stopped to actually talk to the Deku Tree first, as it had been a while.
And the Deku Tree told me something most illuminating—he said that the Master Sword glowed when it was near Ganon, or those touched by his Malice.
Well that explained it.
And that meant that.... the Guardians must have had the Malice in them too.... judging by my encounters in Ordorac Quarry.
It was 4:55 in the morning when I went to check in with Pepp, and so I slept five minutes until the morning proper, and then quit for a while.

When I came back, I warped to Hebra again, and continued my Snow Day! :)
I didn’t go shield surfing after all, but continued south from the northwestern corner of the map, where I had climbed low down the cliffs nigh to falling off the edge of the world.
Saw many things along the way! Found a bear and killed it—and it was a much more drawn-out fight than I would have thought! I could see now how David had once been killed by one of these. Found a Hinox and killed it—Urbosa’s Fury in the Barbarian Armor once again brought down the house! Found a Lynel and.... skirted it. They’re all White-Maned now.
I kept meandering southward until I found, hidden deep within the black stony cliffs beside a deadly icy lake brooding with malevolent Octoroks and planked by pointless and rickety boardwalks to nowhere.... the Maka Rah Shrine! Whose resident challenge was called Steady Thy Heart.
DANG.
If Hawa Koth were like the sparky younger cousin of Kaam Ya’Tak.... then this Maka Rah was surely.... like the sadistic older sister who punishes you for intruding on her CLEARLY-boundaried privacy.
That was my one-hundredth shrine.
I was ahead of David now.

The Forest of Killing Time

Waking of Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Yesterday I had to reset my clock. The power had been out for a couple of hours, because some men from SRP came to our neighborhood and removed an old transformer in the alleyway, replacing it with a newer one.
Must’ve been that devil from Hateno Village again....
That night I had dreams that after the next Blood Moon.... two rusted Guardians waited down the hill from Robbie’s house.

I had seen something very strange when I downloaded the Akkala map. And now at Robbie’s house I could see it with my own eyes: far to the northeast, standing tall from the sea like some kind of prison, was a great, cubic island of black stone.
It was a maze.
And at its heart in the back the orange glow of a shrine could be seen.
David had told me it was swarming with Guardians, so I went to have a look for myself. I jumped off the seaside cliff, and paraglided through the rain....
As I neared, a Flying Guardian came into view, sweeping over the twisting passages. Anything below it would surely be trapped like a rat.
Then another came into view. And another. And another.
Four Guardian Flyers patrolled above.
And who knew what lay in wait inside....
I sure didn’t, because my stamina ran out just before I got there.
I warped from my freefall back to Robbie’s, and thence.... to the Plateau. I wanted to see if old Guardians could be salvaged more than once.
Turned out they couldn’t; none of the old rusted ones around the Temple of Time had anything left for me to find.
Feeling braver, I tried around the East Abbey—home of my first nightmares. There wasn’t much to be found there either. But I took the opportunity to mark on my map where the live Guardians were situated.
As long as I was back on the Plateau I felt like wandering through it again. I had a Warm Doublet now, and I wanted to see the top of Mount Hylia.... and pick up some treasure I’d meant to get before, high on a tower near the treehouse where I first learned to cook.... There were plenty of Koroks that turned up along the way as well....
And then there was something that Jenn had said, so long before.... “How do you beat that miniboss in the forest?”
I hadn’t seen any such miniboss.
Of course, I hadn’t combed the entire forest, either. What was it, a Hinox? A Lynel? I wandered through the trees until I came to a little open spot of ground that made me think once again what a splendid fighting arena it would make....
And a Stone Talus burst out of the earth—not even Talus Junior—just STONE TALUS.
And the Piano conjured up all its percussive friends and laughed at my blundering into the trap!
I ran. The Talus dug up huge boulders out of the earth and hurled them at me! I could only dodge them and get behind the thickest trees—oh gads, one hit with one of those....
I put some distance between me and it until it quieted down again, and then....
I ran back in and climbed up on top of it before it could fully unearth itself this time! The Piano started up again and the Talus pitched and rolled—it is HARD to stand on top of a Talus! But there was its big lump of ore sticking out—I could attack that—if I could reach it....!
It flung me off and I hit the ground and rolled to a stop.
“Get up get up get up, Link!”
I ran back in, so close to its stubby little legs—stubby, they were as tall as I was—and sheltering beneath its bulk, I thought ridiculously: The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm!
The Talus’ huge, huge hammerlike upper appendages pounded the ground—but I was too close to its body. I jumped and gained a lucky purchase on its.... back? I think. It was hard to tell—and started climbing—at times hanging almost upside-down underneath it as it rocked and lunged! But I scaled up its stony hide and got to the top once more.
I hammered away at the protrusion of ore with my Special 38 Big Stick—the Knight’s Claymore—knocking chunks of Amber off at every stroke—the stone beneath my feet rumbled and jerked so erratically—it was so difficult to maintain my stance—but then with a final swing the ore protrusion shattered and the Talus was defeated!
And as it toppled I jumped and ran for it! I’d had giants fall on me before and I was NOT going to have that again!
The Talus collapsed and exploded into a resplendent pile of glittering gems—with two Rubies this time I think—which I happily collected before skipping off on my merry way through the woods.
I beat a Talus! ^_^
When I’d had my fill of the Plateau, I thought of where else I might find Guardians to salvage. My first thought was the Valley of Terror near the Dueling Peaks. But I also thought perhaps to sweep the road between here and there....
I paraglided down into the Forest of Time just to the northeast, because that had looked interesting on my map, dodged a couple of Moblins, and headed for a tall wooden lookout tower to take shelter in. Some Stalkoblins (as I’ve learned they are called from my Compendium) popped up in my wake and started throwing rocks at me as I climbed the ladder. It hurt more than I thought it should—and then I realized I was still wearing my Warm Doublet. Not a lot of defense threaded into that one. Except from the elements.
I came out onto the high platform, and choked—the tower was loaded with high explosives.
“Oh, nope!” I shouted, heading for the first barrel. “You.” I grabbed it— “Out.” —and chucked it over the edge. It exploded in a magnificent fireball, taking at least one of the Stalkoblins with it. “And you.” And the other— “Git!” —went over in like fashion.
The volatility of my immediate surroundings now significantly lessened, I had a look around. You know, it was a nice little tower—a nice, wide platform, little guardrails.... I could see the east road I had first taken so long ago, threading away through some ruins—
And there were Guardian husks down there.
I could search those
But no, I couldn’t. Not right now.
Because a Blood Moon was rising.
Those east road Guardians would have to wait.
I warped back to Robbie’s and paraglided down the hill, grateful it was steep enough to allow me to do so. I found the rock again . . . . and waited.
I readied myself for a scuffle—I knew there were those three Stalmoblins there at least, but the Guardian?
I waited . . . .
11:30 struck, and the ground began to smoke. Unholy embers. Hazy light. Swift red clouds. And the Piano rumbled the pained low groaning it reserved only for those moments . . . .
I stood away from the rock, and faced the space where the Guardian had been before, when Zelda’s warning came in vision to my mind once more . . . .

And when she had done speaking . . . .

THE GUARDIAN WAS BACK.
Back and awake with blue light, clicking and whirring as it swiveled its can-head, looking for things to shoot.
Dang it!” I hopped over to the other side of the rock.
The Stalmoblins didn’t appear.
But now the Guardian was back.
How’d you manage that, Ganon? Resurrecting machinery you never even spawned in the first place?
Ah poop this was so lame....

I climbed back on the rock, and destroyed it the same way I had destroyed it before, with arrows to the eye.
And when it broke down and exploded, I looked hopefully for Ancient Gears or Cores....
But all that was there was a pile of screws.
“You cheapskate,” I muttered as I hopped down to collect them.
Well screw you too.

. . . .

You know, they might actually have been springs, but then I couldn’t have made that joke.

Sirens of West Necluda

Waking of Saturday, March 25, 2017 ~ 2

Long ago on the Plateau, as I went to meet the Old Man for the last time, I stopped inside the lower halls of the Temple of Time to visit the statue of the Goddess once more.
I had collected four spirit orbs by that point, and in exchange for those four spirit orbs, the Goddess offered to gift me with my choice of either stronger health or greater stamina. I chose health, and received another heart container.
I have been collecting spirit orbs and praying at Goddess statues for this purpose ever since.
But all throughout Upland Zorana, and for a long time before that, I’d only had three orbs to my name.
I knew of one shrine that I had left alone for a long, long time, back in West Necluda. It lay far to the north of the road, on the other side of a tree-smattered spread of hills I had not wanted to stray into, across a little bit of river, and on an island. I’d marked it with a marker in my Slate so long ago, but I had never gone back to it.
Considering the increasing treachery of the monsters in my path, I figured it was time to pay it a visit, and thus attain a fourth spirit orb. But I was in luck: my map of the Lanayru region, home to the Zoras, showed that I could more easily approach that island from the north bank of the river. It would be just a little dash across the wetlands I had already explored, over some mostly bare land, and it should be just right there. Easy in reach.
I warped back to the shrine in which I had weathered the lightning storm. There were still lizalfos lurking about; I killed a few. There was also one of those prancing spectres with the lightning rods—I’m sorry to say I rather ran away when he shot an electric keese at me—I couldn’t ready my bow in time to take it down, and I didn’t have any wood or bone weapons....!
But after I’d given myself some distance, I ran back in again and laid that skipping D-cell to waste.
The.... well I guess you could call it a boardwalk—was completely submerged in places, but I semi-followed it to some dry hills—and my shrine locator started beeping at me.
But.... it was in a different direction....
There were more shrines, it seemed.... very nearby.... but just off my map a bit....
I found a road as well, and people walking and riding along it! People I’d never met before. One man on a horse told me I might want to get close to Hyrule Castle thinking of finding treasure there.... but that I might lose my life along the way. It was too dangerous.
This world was so big.... No but what was I doing out here? Just the shrine. Just the one shrine and then I needed to get back to the Zoras; I still had all Ledo’s rocks in my pockets.... Though it wasn’t a bad thing venturing about for shrines, expanding my map.... after all, I had to find the other races and their leaders, and I had to find my memories....
Oh who was I fooling? —
This was a Zelda game.
The Sirens were singing.
I wanted to wander....
Maybe some of the Courage of my former life was coming back to me.

The Old Man Again

Waking of Friday, March 3, 2017 ~ 3

The spot.... was the Temple of Time.
I found him in the high chamber, and he was not merely an Old Man.
He shed his guise of solid form, rose off the floor and was once again bathed in that pale green light—and he told me who he was.
He was the King of Hyrule.
King Rhoam.... Rhoam.... I don’t remember the rest of his name.
He told me that the kingdom of Hyrule—this lush and dangerous land I was in—had fallen, one hundred years ago.
In preparing for the return of Calamity Ganon, the Royalty, their most courageous Knight and the people had unearthed the Sheikah relics—the Guardians—which were those crawlers; as well as the Four Divine Beasts—great machines piloted by four Champions from across the realm, which were used to fight against Ganon.
But they had underestimated their foe. Ganon somehow seized control of these relics and turned them against the Hyruleans instead.
The King had been killed.
And the heroic Knight had collapsed gravely wounded while defending the Princess.
And the Princess.... had remained to stand alone against Calamity Ganon....
That Princess, said King Rhoam, was his own daughter, the Princess Zelda. And the Knight . . .

Was Me.

King Rhoam told me it was the Princess’ voice I had been hearing inside my head.
She with her power had sealed Ganon inside Hyrule Castle—we could see his foul magic and dark form swirling about those grounds—once beautiful, I am sure....
But she needed my help now.... We needed to defeat the Calamity Ganon before his power burst forth and consumed all the land in his evil darkness....
Go to Kakariko Village, the King told me. He said to travel eastward, beyond the Dueling Peaks, and then to cross the bridge and take the road north, and that should lead me to Kakariko Village.
He asked me to seek out one Impa, the elder there; she could tell me more.
He was counting on me.
She.... was counting on me....

The Goddess in the Ruins

Waking of Thursday, March 2, 2017 ~ 3

Farther downhill there was a great ruin that I thought I recognized.
But the way forward was blocked by one or more little red piggish-looking devils: bokoblins.
Well, I had an axe.
I went and had it out with them.
And when I came close to the building, it was indeed the Temple of Time.
There were a few chests hidden around inside and outside, from which I took new weapons.
There were also a number of long-dead, rusted old.... things. Four-legged, tendril-legged, can-headed things. They looked like great upside-down cereal bowls.
I looted them too, and turned over several ancient screws and springs.
Inside the Temple of Time was a statue of the Goddess Hylia. When I approached her, the option came up to Pray. So I did.
This gave me simply a very nice view of the statue, and the words, The Goddess smiles upon you.
How nice. <3
I climbed all over the rest of the Temple, up onto the ruined roof. There was another treasure chest in a high chamber, and on top of the tallest spire.... I found a Korok!
The Korok seemed to have been expecting a Mr. Hestu.
I was not Mr. Hestu.
But the Korok gave me a Korok Seed anyway.
I guess I needed to find this Mr. Hestu.
I spent a while at the top of the spire before climbing back down.
David said, “You know what I would do?”
And, pulling out my Sheikah Slate’s scope, pretty sure I knew the answer, I said, “What, run toward that volcano as fast as you DYEAAUUUHHH—”
For I had looked at the volcano through my scope.
It was on the right side. At the time.

Oh my gosh.
