Demons, and Nightmares, Endai In Between

Waking of Saturday, May 11, 2019 (comprised of raw note editings from April 5, 2023 through April 12, 2023 that I really hope sound consistent because I left it alone for too long)

Demons, and Nightmares, Endai In Between

I went to the Coliseum and killed the Lynel. No sweat. It was awesome and I was feeling pretty good!

David said I was just showing off—to which I absolutely preened. Never done better with dodges and flurry rushes before!

However.... there was no shrine in the area. Nothing I could trip or activate to make one appear after clearing the dangerous space.

But I was not left completely without a prize; I took my new spoils to Kaysa to upgrade my Barbarian Armor. Now that I had seven Lynel guts, I could spare two apiece for each of the three armor pieces and still have one left over.

After that.... I went to Cotera, just because I hadn’t seen her in a while. I had her do up my new Amber Earrings all the way—I’d never seen her do the fourth level before—and my new Opal Earrings up three levels. But I would still need more Opal for the fourth level on those ones.

I ran around the Electric Lizalfos Baobab Grove in the Gerudo Highlands.... climbed further up into the range.... circumnavigated Spectacle Rock, just about.... Found a Korok beneath the little land bridge.... And a new Meteor Rod from a Wizzrobe who didn’t look like he really needed it....

No shrines though. Just wolves.

I circumnavigated Lake Mekar. I killed all the baddies on Mekar Island in the middle again. I even stayed on the island a few days waiting for respawns, though none ever came.

But still.... there were no shrines.

....

Hhhhhhh.

Hmm.

I would try Batrea Lake, by the Riverside Stable.

The Riverside Stable was on the west side of the Hylia River, but Batrea Lake lay in a forest on the east. There were two bridges convenient to the area, but.... Owlan Bridge seemed the shorter route. I jogged southward to cross.

On the other side, I found hecktons of Koroks, and megaBUTTtons of mushrooms of all kinds. And a very interesting giant hollow log stump in the middle of the lake.... with metal boxes inside of it.... Why?

But no shrines.

I meandered northward and came back across on the other bridge, Horwell Bridge—where I saw Leekah was in trouble again.

I saved her from her assailants, saw her to her feet, and began to escort her back toward the stable, when—that glowing, that fluttering, that cursed laughter....

We were waylaid by two Yiga and—just to complicate things—a friggin’ Octorok along for the ride.

I killed the archer in short order, but the big Yiga was more.... insistent. Amid the tussle I saw Leekah make a break for it—good. While she moved toward safety I continued to have it out with the big guy, but he was giving me such trouble.... And then as he leapt backward from my advances yet again, he landed shin-deep in the waters of the Hylia River.

I’d taken out my bow by this point and finally just shot the Octorok to get him to leave me alone. I still had the bow in my hands. A Forest Dweller’s Bow. I pelted the Big Yigaman with one of the bow’s triple-arrows, but upon seeing the paltry effect even this had, I fished into my quiver for something a little stronger—shin-deep in the water....

Ah! Shock Arrows!

Switching over to the new stock and aiming low into the current, I took him down in two juddering, spasming hits.

And he was down.

....His rupees must’ve sunk. But I sure as heck got his bananas.

I ran after Leekah, passing Beedle and Spoone on the way—Doctor Spoone—we really were already quite close to the Stable. But I caught up with her and escorted her the rest of the way nonetheless.

“I feel less anxious with you around,” she said, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” I said back, and I meant it.

That makes me feel good.

Uh.... And then I remembered something.... and made a manual save.

I wanted to test this Hylian Shield.

Strength 120.

Shield Guard Up +30.

What did it mean?

I ventured out into the lands around the Riverside Stable, looking for trouble.... Funny how it never showed up when you were looking for it.... until I finally was able to scare up a couple of Stalmoblins with sticks.

They banged their puny whackers against the brilliant, ringing shield of many ages.

This could take a while, I thought.

Un/fortunately, some time later, another Big Yiga showed up. Now we’re talking.

The sun or my impatience eventually claimed the two stalcreatures, and I faced my new opponent.

Man, that thing took a beating, but the Hylian Shield did not bow or break under the blows of the Yiga Soldier. I followed the man, pressing in close, giving no blows of my own but only allowing him to swing his Windcleaver at me again and again, clanging and banging off the Hylian Shield.... until this one likewise leapt away from me straight backward and into the river.

As it turned out, the river ran deep just there and.... the Yiga Soldier despawned?

But a fresh one showed up just a moment later.

The same one? Did the game recognize that neither of us had yet prevailed in our quarrel? Or was it a newcomer?

I never found out.

I don’t suppose it mattered.

My shield took a BEATING. I could see in my inventories that its pristine sparkle had long since gone away, but still this Hylian Shield would just not die.

As we sported all up and down—well, as one of us sported and one of us did science all up and down the riverbank.... the Octoroks began to crop up again. I didn’t need any stones to the face—I tried to keep the Yigaman in between me and them. They hit him in the back of the head several times. I don’t suppose it was unexpected, but it still made me blink and then give an irreverent little chuckle. The way they just smashed and crumbled off his poor noggin....

My Hylian Shield stood strong against every blow. I never even parried. I just took hit after hit after hit, head-on, every time seeing those tiny sparks fly as the shield’s unplumbable durability was chipped away. Pebbles from a mountain.

Again, and again, and again, and

What in Hylia’s name was that ungodly sound?

It was a voice—definitely a voice, and it was coming from the Yiga, but.... inhuman. Layered.... rippling.... Demonic.

Oh my gosh, I thought, had I carried this fight on for so long that the Yiga was glitching out?

Zwuauzwuzwuzwuaezwaeuwa—” Incomprehensible sounds.

The unholy utterances persisted through the fight now, as long as we ever kept going, the Yiga repeatedly chanting weird demonic things at me as he conjured his ground-burrowing explosions.

Daruk came back to thrice look in on me—what on earth must he have thought?—only to be hammered away once again, and then it was back to shield-beating.

But the Hylian Shield just would not die.

But I wondered whether my game might, at this rate.

But I would like to know the shield’s limits....

But this demon in my ear.... I didn’t want to hear much more of this....

I fled into my pause menu and reloaded that manual save.

My shield was pristine again.

It had never broken.

I’d rather have this guy with me,” the memory ran through my head.

Brother Mow indicated the man who, while he had finished the obstacle course within the time limit, was now so wrung out and huffing and puffing that he had been reduced to puking his guts out onto the ground.

The other course-runners were taken aback. Oh? Not the bigger, tougher man who had aced his way through and finished first?

I told you to leave it all on the field. I know that this guy [the puker] is willing to push himself until he’s falling over sick on the field, but him? I have no idea what his breaking point is. I have no idea what could make him just snap out on the battlefield, and be unable to carry on when it counts.”

Or some such words....

That Hylian Shield....

I wanted to know its limits....

I didn’t want it to ever fail me when I needed it....

I’m....

I’m going to bed somewhere. Maybe my house.

But before I did, I met a man on horseback whom I didn’t think I had ever met before. His name was Endai.

“Ah, I’ve seen that look in your eye before,” he said, “You’ve lost track of what’s important in life, haven’t you?”

Huh. Remarkably.... astute.

“Catching bugs, swimming, infiltrating the castle, sleeping... The possibilities are endless, don’t you think?”

....!?

Who is this guy??

....

Just another man on the road.

And then too soon.... we parted ways.

....

He was right. I had lost track.

The Princess was waiting for me.

Calamity Ganon.... was waiting for me.

But where were the last two shrines....?

....

I went to Hateno—I went home.

This is my house.

This is my house. ♪ ....

I put on pajamas.

Yes, these are my new pajamas.

Because I’m a girl playing this game.

It was roughly 11:00 pm.

I slept until the morning....

Good night.

~

And in my dreams.... I was escorting someone.... a woman and child, I think.

It was a dangerous time and place. Near to the castle.

I had to protect them....

A laser was targeting us—But we made it out of range....

Safe for the moment, and for the moment only. We were near to one of the gatehouses.

I could see something.... there near the castle....

There on the base of one of the rock pillars supporting the bridge over the moat... was that.... could that be.... some kind of opening into an inner part?

And on the bridge....

A Golden Lynel.

I had only heard of them in rumor.

But I had to get these people to safety.

Did they go on ahead? Did I send them? Or were they spooked by something?

Did they dash into the gatehouse too quickly? But there were Malice Mouths in there!

Or did a new laser find us?

They moved ahead to where I had thought that they would be safe, because I was busy fending off whatever was behind us, whatever was coming.... but something happened, something new, something spotted our movements.

No!

I was supposed to look after them. I couldn’t let them be hurt.

I had to save them

Please no

I had to keep them safe

Exhale

Waking of Monday, April 22, 2019 ~ 5

Exhale

I clung to the castle’s apex, beneath the blustery, unholy skies.

Talk about King Of The Mountain Syndrome.

....I should check and see whether I really can get onto one of those Guardians atop one of the Five Columns, I thought.

Fathomless tiers of glaring castle-land tapered dizzily in the doom-glow beneath my feet.

Oh my gosh.

But which column?

I got the memory.

Which column....

The one I knew had a Guardian?

Dad was here and the ensuing atmosphere was tight and hard. Didn’t want to move....

And I was getting hungry.

I had not eaten all day today.

I am on top of the tallest, tallest Castle Spire.

Where to go from here....

Hmm....

I considered the northern Pillar.

Noo, I already know it has one.

Then.... one of the ones toward the field. For I wanted to fly afterward. Guardian or no.

7:05 am.

The sun was rising.

I go.

After spending the night on this godforsaken spire....

I jumped at 8:45 am toward the southeastern Column, the one on the way to the eastern edge of Hyrule Field. Seemed the safest.

There was a Guardian up there.

I landed on its head. It seemed to be dead.

The air was so much clearer down here. Am I.... Am I out of the Malice? I think I am.... No I’m still in it. Just down in the clearer air is all.

I could go anywhere from here.

I will.

But.... first.... remembering my clipping mishap through the northern Pillar.... I wondered if I could stand on this column.

Hop down from the Guardian....

I can.

....

Neat.

....

There wasn’t a lot of room or much to do.

....

....

I’m going to visit Benny.

....

Okay didn’t quite make it to Benny’s, but bent wide to the east to avoid the field Guardians. Killed the Hinox, got guts, sweet. Then to Benny’s.

Then the Stable was right there. Wetland Stable. Save Leekah, go to Stable. Blood Moon.

Hmmmmm....

Could go get Hinox guts again....

Think I’ll just sleep here at the Wetland Stable. It’s 1:00 in the morning, game time. Sleep until morning, yeah. I am half-dead.

Sleep. Get back hearts.

It’s raining in the morning.

****

Okay boot it up one more time before bed just to.... get my fix....

I watch all the memories I have in order. With Mom because she’s sweet.

And now.... things are beginning to make more sense to me, recalling it all in order.

We watched them all. Some of them I hadn’t even seen since the very first time I saw them. For I didn’t let myself go back very often, if ever. Even when I was first recording them.

Cinematics, viewed often, lose their charm after all.

But now seeing them all....

That was special.

....

But there is still that.... hole.... there, near the bottom of the list.

Between Despair and Hope.

What happened to me?

I feel like.... I might see Garill again soon.

I do like Garill.

I’ll find out.

Very soon.

Castle Goods, COD

Waking of Saturday, March 23, 2019 ~ 2

I looked back at the castle. The current had carried me far to the west. When—
What? There were.... more Luminous stones? There on the more western side of the castle’s back. I could see them glowing in a little clump.
Did that mean another entrance? Another secret passage?
And what was that hole in the wall over there? Was that real? Or a trick of the polygons? For the polygons had tricked me before, over great, unresolved distances....
I considered the distant gleaming, but.... I had just been INSIDE THE CASTLE.
I had just escaped being inside the castle.
Never mind. I was hungry and my body was tired or it should have been.
I would go to Woodland Stable.
....
No, first.... I pulled up my Sheikah Slate, scoped in on the questionable spot, and tested placing a beacon through it.
The ascending light shaft broke through one of the great stone shelves of the castle’s island.
That was a hole in the wall....
What could it be....?
....
Later.
I hoofed it to Woodland and spoke to Kish, asking him to gimme Memory. It seemed appropriate.
Rode Memory to Riverside Stable, just going by sight mostly. Didn’t even stop for the Korok at Thims Bridge. I did stop for Leekah, though. Like I do.... That poor girl....
I got to Riverside eventually, and boarded Memory with Ember. Good lookin’ guy.
Gotter and Parcy were here, but.... it was raining. I couldn’t cook the royal recipes for Gotter. But I could still visit with Parcy in the Stable.
I showed her the Royal Guard’s Sword.
She was amazed.
So amazed in fact that she gave me 300 rupees for the privilege.
Well that was right dandy!
Then she asked if I’d be willing to trade it for a sapphire.
Dude. Do you know where I went to get this?
I declined.
It was late. I decided I may as well sleep off the rain. I could cook in the morning. Hopefully the wok would be lit....
Ember gave me a bed and I had Blood Moon dreams....

Woke up.
Wok’s not lit.
It wasn’t even raining.
I didn’t have time for this.
I SHOT A FIRE ARROW AT IT.
This startled Gotter, who was standing hard by.
I made a fruitcake. Wheat, sugar, one Wildberry and one Hearty Durian.
(It seemed to be a super-food, as indicated by the extra music and Link’s salivatory anticipation animation.)
Hhhh, and I’d only had two wheats.
That’s okay.
I gave it to Gotter.
“Fruit cake said to have been eaten by the Princess of Hyrule! How can I describe this experience?” he mused as he tried it. “A refreshing aroma reminiscent of galloping across these majestic planes on horseback...”
SSSSSIIIIICCCCC. Planes. Lol.
“No, that undersells the dish’s complexity,” he went on, “It fills me with that heart-thumping intensity that seizes your very soul when you’re spotted by a Guardian!”
Oh gosh I hoped not.
“A truly elegant dish! I never thought I would taste something quite so thrilling.”
And then he told me he must express his gratitude.... and he gave me 100 rupees.
Awesome.
Now for the Chancellor’s dish. Monster Cake—
Oh.... but the quest banner flashed across the screen and said Complete.
....
Maybe I’d make it anyway. Or another fruitcake. For me.
I talked to Gotter to see what he had to say.
“Recipes of the Hyrulean royal family... If there are more of them out there, I’d like to try them.”
Okay then!
One Monster Cake, comin’ up.
There went my last wheat, my second to last sugar, one of only a handfull of butter, and one of another handful of monster exract.
Monster cake!
Said to have been a favorite of the minster of Hyrule.
How had I guessed this recipe correctly when I made it on the first try for Hunnie?
“It tastes...beautiful... How can I put it into words?” said Gotter, “It’s like biting into a Chuchu...”
The heck?? XD XD
“No, no, that would be disgusting and dangerous. It stimulates the brain, much like being pummeled by a Hinox!”
Heh, I like this guy’s way with words. XD
“A truly elegant dish! I never thought I would taste something quite so thrilling,” he repeated, and gave me 100 rupees again.
Nice.
And when I spoke to him again....
“I think I’ll continue to practice my cooking on unsuspecting inn patrons like yourself.”
And that was all.
Heh, good luck, Gotter.
....
I’m going to Hateno to hang up these rare weapons.
Took out Knight.... rode, rode.... Man, rescuing people is a hassle. But I can’t not do it....
I finally get near Hateno, and.... fighting the dang silver Bokoblin what was attacking those sisters.... my weapon shattered.
WAIT.
WHAT.
....
Your Royal Guard’s Sword broke!?
NO. NOPE. It was still equipped after talking to Parcy. Nope. I am reloading.
Back to Riverside. Give Gotter the second dish over again.
Just warp to Hateno.
Do. And display all the Royal Guard’s Crap in the center of their respective walls. Bow, Sword, and Shield.
9:50 am. Sleep ‘til noon.
G’NIGHT EVERYBODY!

Link The Physical

Waking of Saturday, June 2, 2018 ~ 2

TO BUSINESS....
David’s ahead of me. But I would show him something he’d never done. Something I’d never done either, to be honest, but....
Well, I had faith it was possible.
Actualy.... I knew it was possible!
I’d become quite practiced at avoiding spoilerish images on the internet, but.... I recalled catching it in one YouTube thumbnail I had seen.... it had been pretty striking....
Also I’d heard tell from my Compendium that it was a thing that you could do.
As I ran from the Wetland Stable toward the Honeydell (and saved Leekah again), I felt appropriate in rather recreating what I had glimpsed in that thumbnail, and started stripping off my clothes. I left a rugged-looking spear on my back, though. And so, looking a proper barbarian, I came to the edge of the dell and peered down. The rain made it difficult to see, but there were unmistakably two bears down there.
That.... could complicate matters. I was hardly sure I could handle one bear—how could I be sure the other wouldn’t attack me while I was at it?
As I hemmed and hawed, shirtless Link did something I’d never seen him do before—seemed the programmers had added a new stance dance move....
Suddenly I saw his arms rise slowly up from his sides, straight out—I swung the camera around him to see what he was on about....
And then flex! He regarded one bicep, and then with a slight shift in posture turned his head to admire the other.
Oh my gosh! XD Oh I laughed so much at that.... XD XD XD
Well, eventually one bear ran off, but the remaining one wouldn’t come out of the cave. I couldn’t deal with it like that....
And then that one suddenly ran off too, and I was bearless.
Eh, as it was night, I returned to the Wetland Stable and rested until the morning. Whereupon I gave Honeydell another go, but there were no bears.
Hmph.
So I tried Shadow Pass. I’d seen a bear in there before. And my Compendium said they could be found in the Akkala Highlands. But when I got there all I found was a wolf.
I bounced between the two for a while, Honeydell and Shadow Pass, but with no luck—just a really bad encounter with an electric Keese in the rain—NEVER AGAIN—
And.... David had stepped out again anyway, so.... I decided to hunt some more Guardians in the meanwhile.
Back to Lomei Labyrinth. I killed the Crawler. I killed the maze-lurker. And then.... it was time to revisit the dread basement.
When I floated down this time.... they all could see me coming! I sailed quickly behind the giant pillar by the entrance....
Four Decayed Guardians in the room. That’s how many lasers there had been. I peeked round the pillar’s edge until one of them saw me.
Hoo. I could do this.
I stepped out again, its laser found me, the Piano got restless, and I had to time my parry very carefully this time—the Guardians’ laserbolts were fast, but they still took time to traverse the yards between us. A very short time....
But I whacked it back across the room nonetheless, and that Guardian exploded. Excellent!
On to the next!
I killed the four Decayed ones that way, peeping round the pillar. But there were two Stalkers left. And for those ones all I could do was . . . . well walk up to them as surely as I might, until they came to life.
Sparks and embers rained from the ceiling where the lightning struck on the maze’s rainy surface.
I almost had to come right up between the splay of their spider legs before they’d finally wake up.
Ughuhuh.
But I did it. Twice. And the swell of Strings carried me through the maniacal Piano, and presently every threat was eliminated, and I....
I HAD CLEANED THE BASEMENT.
And its yield brought me up to twenty-three gears! ^_^
HUH! After this, that thing I wanted to show David would surely pose no problem at all!
I warped back to the Wetland, and luck was on my side: the day was fair, and only one bear prowled in the Honeydell, and that well away from the cave.
David wasn’t there, but.... I knew he would be shortly.
Switching once again to my Nature Boy outfit, I leapt off the edge as silently as I could, and paraglided down in a calculated sail toward the bear . . . it was so big up close.
It sensed me just before I landed on its back, and then started jumping and rearing, trying to throw me off....
My stamina is greater than it has been—two full wheels.
And with it I was able to hold on.... and soothe the bear.
After only a moment it stood still, and only rocked in its lumbering animal stance dance beneath me.
Oh my gosh I tamed a bear! XD
And I got it to walk! :D I headed toward the road....
I’d seen David ride a deer at a walk before, but when he had tried to give it a spur it had bucked him off.
Could I get the bear to go faster than a walk? Safely at least?
But I was content to just go lumbering forward for the moment. It was such a big animal—and its tail was quite as fluffy as a rabbit’s!
As I neared the way out of the dell, the bear roared and tried to throw me off again, but I was able to soothe it once more.
It was around this time that David entered the room.
“....Why are you riding a bear?” he said flatly.
“Well that’s not the reaction I was hoping for!” I said, “Have you ever ridden a bear?”
“No,” he laughed.
But I was glad that I seemed to have thoroughly captured his attentions with the spectacle for the moment. ^_^
Spectacled.... Spectacled bear.
LOL.
I asked him about spurring his deer before, and then.... decided to try it on the bear. I hit A
And the bear started into a great burly lope! It ran down the road! With me on its back! Oh my gosh! XD XD
At whiles it would get tired of me and grunt and roar, but I was able to get it all the way back to the Wetland Stable.
And I wondered....
The more attentive denizens of the stable all cowered and whimpered at my approach—even Kass siffened and looked at me with some pause, his accordion momentarily forgotten. But Lawdon (whom I’d been giving a lot of business to lately) said automatically when I rode up, “Well, looks like you’ve caught yourself a new steed! Would you like to register it?”
“Yes, please!”
“Understoo— Uh...”
And then he looked at my big new mount.
“Oh for the love of Hylia... That’s not a horse!”
XD XD XD XD
“We only board horses here, no exceptions,” he told me.
XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
Oh that was PRECIOUS! ^_^
Ah!
Delightful. > u <
Agh well I figured I’d dealt with the poor bear for long enough at that point. But when I thought about dismounting.... I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t go savaging all the people standing around.
So I rode him back home.
It was rather terrifying and alarming every time he tried to buck me off. And I wondered if, when I let him go.... he’d turn on me and I’d have to kill him.
I equipped something a bit stronger than my scary-looking Nature Boy spear, just in case. But when I got off, we just ran our separate ways from each other.
Heh. Cool.
I rode a bear! ^_^

Horse Abuse

Waking of Sunday, November 26, 2017 ~ 2

I was going to ride Thrice all the way to Akkala—both to report back to that soldier about Kilton, and to check on what my twelve Ancient Gears could get me from Cherry. I meanwhile left my Sheikah Sensor tuned to fishies in case I encountered any of those along the way!
And as with most of my longer rides it came with a number of stops along the way to throw Bokoblins off the other travelers. Mils and Mina.... Leekah (another rider’s horse actually kicked that Bokoblin something fierce before I finished it off).... Tye and Sorelia (that one I settled from horseback—felt rather proud!)....
I wanted to stop on Thims Bridge to play another water-goal Korok game, but the Octorok gave me trouble before I could blow it up, and I turned and—
Thrice?
Where did Thrice go!?
And then I saw the dark shape swimming in the dimness toward the other shore. Did he jump? Fall off? Did the Octorok hit him?
I ditched the Korok game and swam after him. Thrice!
Forgive me, Thrice....
Sobered, I decided there would be no more fooling around; it was time to continue our journey to Akkala.
Our rainy, rainy journey.
At the South Akkala Stable we came to a fork in the road. Would it be better to head east toward Chariots of Fire Beach? Or north through Shadow Pass?
Mmm, the route seemed shorter through Shadow Pass.... Onward we went.
....And stopped in the middle of the pass to rescue Chabi once more.
Hero work is demanding.
We also met Laroba again on the other side (“Sav’aaq!”), and she shared some new gossip: evidently a rare set of arrows was rumored to rest somewhere inside Hyrule Castle. If I ever found myself exploring that place.
Fat chance at present!
At length we finally arrived at the East Akkala Stable, and I spoke to Hoz the Guard.
He was grateful to see the pictograph of Kilton. But then....
“This will surely help me hunt him down,” he said, and gave me a silver rupee for my trouble.
D:
Mmmmrm but Kilton was helpful!
I guess I don’t really know what else I might have been expecting, given Hoz’s attitude toward the Kilton rumors when I first met him, and the fact that he was a guard....
:c
Huhhh.
....
Huh.  !
....
Good thing that pictograph was only of Kilton’s back.
It was indeed that very one that had had the quest-exclamation-mark affixed to it.
Guess we broke even there.

I thought I could just gallop past the Guardian on the way to Robbie’s; that’s what David said he did.
As it turned out, the Guardian.... had an exceptional range....
It shot Thrice.
Twice.
There were clinging flames.
Forgive me, Thrice.... Oh I was taking him home after this to a stable straight away....
The rain poured again as I walked into the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
My Ancient Gears sadly could not afford me any more armor, but I had plenty of Ancient Shafts on me, and I put these toward a bundle of five Ancient Arrows.
They were precious and expensive. I would have to be very careful with them in the future. No more mistakes.
That was one reason I bought the Ancient Helm first: Of the three armor pieces, the helm alone utilized Ancient Shafts, which I knew I would need later for arrow fodder. May as well have gotten the big Shaft-purchase out of the way early on, right?
Now to get Thrice out of here....
I would kill the Guardian first.
The only problem was that it was still raining outside, and the weather had broiled into a storm.
And I had only metal weapons on me.
But I could at least close the distance between myself and my quarry.... and a close lightning strike in front of me proved to be serendipitous as the small fire it sparked gave me an excellent updraft!
I tried and failed to land on top of the Guardian’s head—I’d just wondered if it could be done. It didn’t seem like it.... Would that be like the central space beneath.... Kalle Demos? I can’t believe I remembered that name....
I waited behind the rock until the storm finally blew itself out, and then dispatched the Guardian directly with melee weapons to its awful, wicked eye.
With the road safe and clear I boarded Thrice at the East Akkala Stable.... but I took out Dragmire for more riding.

Do horses heal when they are boarded at a stable, as Hylians heal when they sleep in a bed?

There was something else David had said he had done, with his own acquired Giant Horse from the Lynels’ Corridor (Shooper? Was that what he called that one? No maybe it was Shaq....).
He’d told me, and I’d seem him demonstrate, that the Big Horse was strong enough to just trample whatever baddies were in the way—even Lynels.
Not in one go, of course, but a galloping pass at a stationary Lynel would deal out some degree of damage.
Dragmire did have the greatest level of strength of any horse I had seen.
I wondered if I could make a pattern of David’s hit-and-run technique....
Dragmire and I plunged into the lush lowlands of Akkala, toward Tempest Gulch.
Toward the Lynel.

It.... didn’t work.

The Lynel was bewildered and bebothered for a short time, but there came a point where he’d had enough—and combusting arrows soon followed.
More flamesclinging, searing flames
I boarded Dragmire again.

My poor babies.

It was enough. It was too much.

No more endangering the horses.

Procrastination

Waking of Saturday, July 29, 2017

I came out of the Tah Muhl Shrine and headed northeast to another shrine I had marked: the Sah Dahaj Shrine. This one lay in a deep hole beside a mad treehouse full of nasties. I cleaned them all out—after I completed the shrine.
Was it just me? Or did all these Eldin shrines contain fire-based trials? ¬.¬
I’d been picking up Koroks here and there, but THAT CIRCLE—that circle of stones behind the treehouse—for the life of me I could not find a spare stone ANYWHERE that would complete that circle and tease out the Korok!
I climbed all over the mountain above, and found nothing but more Fireproof Lizards—dandy for making more fireproof elixirs and made me wanna have another go at Bayge & Co.’s endurance challenge in the Gerudo Highlands but that wasn’t what I was looking for just now.
I even backtracked to another Korok I’d found hiding under a rock.... but that rock had long since vanished. Dang it.
I knew where there were more rocks.... somewhat nearby....
They were down in the shallow lake, near another Korok puzzle I’d solved: throw the rock in the water-goal.
Rocks for those kinds of Korok puzzles never run out.
There was only one problem: that lake was about a hundred feet lower than where the treehouse Korok Circle was—separated from it by terrain that was steep and ill-suited for walking. And walking.... was the only way to carry a rock for a Korok Circle. You couldn’t climb with those things.
....But those were the only rocks anywhere....
....
Yeah, I used one of those.
Yes, it was a chore.
No, the Octo Balloons weren’t that helpful—and I injured myself more than once.
Turned out I didn’t need them anyway.
NO I’M NOT TELLING.
ANYWAY!
I climbed a little more around the mountain—and found just one more Korok in a very frightening location, in a pool right next to a Guardian that patrolled back and forth along a section of road that passed beneath a delicate arch of stone.
Well, when the Guardian’s back was turned, I paraglided in and ran for it! I got to the little hot spring and ducked behind a large rock just in time.
It was tricky picking up that Korok—it was another rock-in-the-water-goal puzzle. I missed with the first rock I picked up—my nerves were on edge with that Guardian so close! But I got the second rock right where it should be.
I know when the Korok is interacting with you, the world of the game is frozen. But.... man, you still feel a pressure to hurry up when you’re on such dangerous ground!
I collected the Korok seed, started for the cover of the rock, and the Guardian saw me. It turned glowing hot red. “Oh man that thing’s agitated,” I muttered.
But it did not enter the spring to look for me.
Maybe they can’t walk on water.
I climbed a little more, started going up a pathway haunted by too many Fire Keese.... but, deciding I didn’t want to burst into flame anymore in the volcano’s heat, I hopped over the mountain’s arm and climbed into Akkala.
I came down almost right on top of the South Akkala Stable! I played some bug games with the stablehands there; they were cute. ^_^ After that I took the road north through a place I’d been curious about for a long time: Shadow Pass. I wondered what was in there....
Turned out it was just a lot of game. And of course all the beautiful Akkala plant life. <3
I also ran into a bear.
It growled at me, its eyes shining green in the moonlight....
I quickly jumped onto a big rock and climbed right to the top in a trice!
But the bear was already running out of sight.
Maybe we scared each other.
I continued north, looking for I don’t even know what....
I saw Karsh again. “Sav’saaba!”
I saw Chabi again. She’d heard Kilton was on the move now.
I basically just made a big circle, coming back toward the South Akkala Stable via the road that ran through the wetlands.
Those wetlands were another fine Valley of Terror, let me tell you. I set my detector once again to Decayed Guardians. And it chirped a foreboding beat....
I scavenged all the dead Guardians I dared, only backing off when I saw that I was nearing the live ones—I mean the ones that move. There are two of them down there. I’d seen them when I paraglided out of the Akkala Tower.
It was a fairly good haul anyway. Made me want to go visit Robbie again, and see what Cherry could make for me.
Back at the South Akkala Stable I met a guy whose dark skin was at odds with his platinum-blonde hair, and his name was Rex.
Rex said he was looking for that Legendary Sword. I chatted with him about it. He said he reckoned the sword was somewhere near the volcano.... but not on this side. He said it was probably closer to the Woodland Stable.

Huh.

You know.... I’d had a feeling about the Lost Woods for a long, long time.

When I chatted with Rex about it again, he became defensive, aggressive, saying he was going to be the one to find it! And I’d better just stay out of his way....

Huh.

....

Well now that my on-screen avatar had received a proper clue about it....

....

Well.... I do like chasing the scripted breadcrumbs.

Eh.

I took Memory from the South Akkala Stable, and rode him all the way to the Woodland Stable.
That.... was a pleasant ride.
And the Piano came out to accompany us, splashing in the wake of Memory’s hooves in its sunlit-raindrop song, and swaying and dipping its lovely Violin dance partner as they told us some of Koji Kondo’s best stories....
Zelda’s Lullaby.
The Legend of Zelda.
Beautiful themes.
I kept a sharp eye as we clipped along the riverside leading out of Lanayru.... and there she was, flailing away from a Bokoblin.
Leekah.... Memory stay here,” I said as I dismounted....
When I’d escorted the disaster-prone girl back to the Woodland Stable, I checked up on Memory’s stats.... and saw that the last seven percent had finally filled up to max out our bond to each other.
He is willful, and wild.
And he is mine.

Somewhere around the stable I saw Laroba, another Gerudo. “Sav’aaq,” she hailed me, and then said something about where to find all the strapping voe.
Voe....?
....
I wondered if it was some concise term for boyfriend material.
I’d momentarily forgotten that the Gerudo couldn’t possibly find mates among themselves, as they are all women.
Hmm.
I wondered how they’d receive me once I ventured into their lands.

Well I ran up the hill to the Lost Woods and, more confident against wolves, even ventured inside a bit.
The mist was weird, curling in unnatural scud all across my view. The Piano came to heel again, tapping out once more those repetitive descending notes in a watchful key of G. It sounded more.... assertive this time, as though it knew there was something to be sought after hard in here.... though that may only have been my imagination.
I followed a few lit torches into the green misty gloom....
But....
I considered my surroundings. I mean my surroundings. In my house.
There were too many people around. The buzzkill risk was too high. And this seemed too important.
I didn’t want to do it right now.
I backed out.
But on my way I thought I saw something faintly glowing in the distance, something.... orange or pink....
I tried to climb a rock to get a better view and—
EVERYTHING WENT WHITE—and I swear I heard some.... someone.... laughing....
And I wound up back at the entrance.
....
Unlike Ketoh Wawai’s shrouded island.... it seemed the path in here.... could not be strayed from.
I came out and decided to climb north around the volcano.... looking for more shrines maybe. I found that epic treehouse I’d seen before [or rather what I thought was that epic treehouse I’d seen before—there’s a couple of them on Death Mountain’s western slopes], got up behind it, and cleared it out with an equally epic game of Bomb-Golf.

You know.... I really.... really love having infinite bombs in this game. =3

After I killed the treehouse.... well the volcano was just so massive....
What was I doing, anyway?
I changed course, and started to go after my blue marker instead. As far away as it was, it was probably closer than any north part of the volcano I thought about exploring—Death Mountain was huge.
I hiked west around the north side of the Lost Woods, getting quite close to the edge of my visible map. I could see the way to where I’d put my Blue Marker. It was so close!
But.... as I’d suspected, it did get too cold before I got there. Too cold even for my Warm Doublet. I could even see the boundary where the falling rain turned into falling snow.
I met a nice lady merchant walking along the road there. Yammo was her name. But she and her donkey didn’t have any cold weather clothing I could buy....
The two of them just kept walking toward the freezing air.... and a moose. A Tabantha Moose. I snapped its pictograph as its head was turned in my direction. It had the same green eyes as that bear had had....
When Yammo and her donkey got close to it, it spooked, which spooked them, and they all ran away from each other. XD
Well, the way up the road and toward my marker was too cold, but I could plainly see a shrine and a stable far away in the west, amid a grassier, gentler clime.
But.... I could also hear a shrine beeping much closer than that....
It was in that place I’d seen in the northern reaches of my Woodland Map. Those huge, huge angular structures in that low valley....
I wanted to find it....
