Shrine Out Of Time 2.3 - Gifts

Evening of Tuesday, November 17, 2020 (comprised of some raw note editings from April 29 through April 30, 2023 that I really hope sound consistent because I left it alone for too long) ~ 3

Shrine Out Of Time 2.3 - Gifts

It was a Modest Test Of Strength.

And I beat the Guardian.

Passed through the gate.

Looted the treasure chest.

And approached the meditating Monk....

Your triumph over the test of strength

subverts a prophecy of ruin. From the

ashes of Hyrule, a hero rises.

The Monk spoke the familiar words.

In the name of Goddess Hylia, I

bestow upon you this Spirit Orb.

And the Orb emerged from his solar plexus, arced gently across the space between us, and entered into my heart, my face pensive and reverent as ever at these times.

The little fanfare played, and the pop-up popped up: Spirit Orb – A symbol of courage given to those who have overcome the challenges of a shrine.

And I clicked to dismiss it away.

And then it turned.

You have at last conquered all of our

trials.

the Monk said.

Having fulfilled our purpose, we monks

bestow upon you this...

The warrant of the true hero.

You must now depart for the

Forgotten Temple.

A Gift from the Monks – the new quest banner flashed across the top of the screen.

And then, at the last.... the Monk imparted those timeless words....

May the Goddess smile upon you.

And his body evaporated away into that swirling teal mist, borne of an unearthly wind....

And I was made to depart the Final Shrine.

Hahhhhhh.

I’d finally done it.

I had finally found every last Shrine.

!

And it wasn’t even over yet.

The Forgotten Temple....

I did not warp straight inside, but elected instead to warp to the Hebra Stable—Snowfield Stable—approach the Forgotten Temple from the outside and Tanagar Canyon.... and DO THE THING PROPER.

Good times.... sailing through that firestorm....

And this time, behind the Rona Kachta Shrine at the back, standing on the platform before the giant Goddess statue.... were Three Treasure Chests.

But first.... I prayed to the Goddess, and received my final heart container.

I was ready now.

“Should I do this twenty-three-is-number-one style?” I asked the room at large.

Nobody really got it.

But.... I didn’t do it that way after all. I would go.... left.... then right.... then center....

Left....

Tunic of the Wild.

This armor was apparently crafted for a hero who travels in the wilds. Strangely enough, it’s just your size.

Right....

Trousers of the Wild.

Legends say these pants were tailored for a hero who travels the wilderness. Strangely enough, they’re the most comfortable pair of pants you’ve ever worn.

Ah, that sounds fabulous.

And center....

Cap of the Wild

According to legend, this cap was crafted for a hero who travels the wild lands. Wearing it just feels so right.

And I could feel the Spirit of the Hero.

I am the Hero.

They looked great. Agh, they looked classic.

They looked like the Oldest School Link you could think of. Dazzling with more pixels. But still so Pure.

Heh, and there were little .... square-tooth dark bands around the sleeve hems. Just a simple design. Very nice.

I looked great.

To Cotera then!

Good old Cotera.

Hee!

The upgrades were:

Cap – 10 Acorns and 2 Farosh scales

Tunic – 10 Acorns and 2 Naydra scales

Trousers – 10 Acorns and 2 Dinraal scales

Somehow acorns were just.... so perfect.

So cute. ^_^

Basic and pure for the boy in the forest.

~

And now.... I have notated all.... and I am.... very tired.

[And as of 1:17am, Sunday, April 30, 2023, I have now finessed all.... save the last battle....]

Do you know what my new job is?

I am a video game tester.

These horizons are definitely more exciting.

Probably because.... I can barely see them.

I am in the bottom of a jungle valley, and every day is a machete salad.

No, I can’t talk about it.

I signed an NDA.

Maybe I will upgrade Link’s clothes.... another day....

And fight Ganon again....

....like I said I would.

                        Good night.

In Accordance with Guidelines

Waking of Friday, February 8, 2019 ~ 3

I WARPED TO HATENO.
I INVITED BOLSON AND KARSON.
AND THEN IT WAS BACK TO TARREY TOWN.
THERE WAS A WEDDING TO GET ON! 8D
Back in Tarrey Town, I visited with Bolson and Karson again, and then at high noon, I spoke to Hudson.... who started the ceremony.
And the Tarrey Town music was softly taken over by an organ. <3
Kapson officiated, standing at the head of the Goddess Statue Fountain. And Rhondson was so pretty in white! ^_^ She came walking down the “aisle” that was simply the space devoid of guests, and her clothing glittered in a pleasing texture: white top, bare Gerudo midriff, beautiful ankle-length flowing white skirt, white shoes, and a pretty white veil nested into her lovely hair. Heh, and Hudson looked all smart and handsome too, even in his vest and bare chest. It was a happy day. ^_^
“Hudson, Before the eyes of these witnesses and before those of Goddess Hylia...” Kapson began, “Do you take Rhondson to be your wife, to have and to hold, in good times and in bad?”
“I do.”
“Excellent. And Rhondson...” He turned to the Gerudo, “Before the eyes of these witnesses and before those of Goddess Hylia... Do you take Hudson as your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health?”
The camera buckled down unusually close to the old fish’s face, his big glassy fish eyes staring....
“And do you also vow to...name your children in accordance with the Bolson Constrution naming guidelines?” I CAN’T BELIEVE HE JUST SAID THAT.
Rhondson said, “Wait a moment... Those vows are not traditional by anyone’s standards!” Well that was putting it lightly!
“What makes you say that?” said Hudson, turning. Hudson!
Bolson stood up. “They’re as traditional as it gets!”
And Karson chimed in, “I don’t think she means traditional in that sense of the word.”
“A vow of undying tradition!” Fyson cheered. What in the heck, Fyson? You weren’t
“And a vow of guidelines compliance!” Pelison added. He was still wearing his big ol’ yellow construction helmet.
And, “I’ll take that vow!” said Greyson. Gorons! @@
“Think of future generations!” Hudson said to her.
Rhondson didn’t say anything, but only looked.... doubtful.
The moment hung in the air. Young Karson looked on from behind with his mouth open in anticipation. Everyone was waiting....
Rhondson shook her head, put one hand on her hip, and momentarily lowering her voice uttered, “Well, those are the guidelines... I do.”
“Excellent,” said Kapson with an unruffled grace.
He cleared his throat with an aged little cough, and continued, “And so, dearly beloved, please help me in greeting this newly married couple.”
The bells were ringing, the confetti was flying and everyone was clapping and cheering!
Haha, Bolson was tossing the confetti!
What in the heck just happened? @@
Kapson sang out, “I wish this new couple nothing but the utmost happiness as they set out on this journey of marital bliss!” As the camera panned up to the blue beautiful sky....

Hudson and Rhondson’s wedding was a shining beacon in an otherwise dark, dangerous world,” said the Quest Log.
Rhondson was a little taken aback by a few of the vows, but everything worked out fine and is in perfect compliance with Bolson Construction’s guidelines.
It’s only polite to give your blessing to the lovely couple who just vowed their undying love, so go talk to Hudson.”

I spoke to Rhondson first, though.
“The wedding ceremoy...wasn’t what I expected, but it was special all the same,” she said, “Did you like the dress? I made it myself.”
“No kidding!” I said as my only response. XD <3 ^_^
“Although Hudson wanted me to weave the gems he mined into it, so every step down the aisle was a struggle.”
Heh, but she made it look good.
“Well, that’s life for you, with all its twists and turns. I hope you’ll stick with us through them.”
You bet I would, Rhondson! ^_^
And then Hudson.
“Hey. It’s you,” he said at my approach. “Thank you for attending the ceremony. ...*sniff*”
Oh gosh my CHOICES: “Are you crying?” and “Congratulations!”
I said.... Oh, man to man, I should have said Congratulations! But.....
BUT I’M A GIRL PLAYING THIS GAME.
“Are you crying?” I said!
“What? No. Just something in my eye...” He offhandedly wiped his face. “And now Tarrey Town looks like a real town at long last.”
Heh, yeah, it did.
“This was all possible because of you. I can’t thank you enough for all the hard work you did. All right. This is for you.”
And he gave me.... three diamonds!
“These were found inside the boulders we smashed when we were clearing land. Rhondson and I have no use for them. You can take them.”
That was a valuable gift!
And the giant sidequest’s banner flashed across my screen:

From The Ground Up ~ Complete

Well that felt good. ^_^
The Quest Log now read:

Hudson and Rhondson are happily married, and Tarrey Town is enjoying great prosperity.
As a sign of appreciation for bringing the town together and as compensation for your work, Hudson gave you a hefty amount of gems that were unearthed during the town’s construction.
You wished the couple eternal happiness before heading on your way.”

Aaawwwwwww. ^_^ <3 <3 <3

Tarrey Town certainly was feeling more peaceful. Moggs and Monari his wife hadn’t heard the people across the way argue in quite some time. Moggs figured every time they overcame an obstacle together their relationship grew stronger.
Man I was running out of gas.
I think I’ll spend the night in the inn (it’s 7:00pm-ish, game time), and then go to bed. Got that 10K in the morning....
Kapson is such a kind host. “Link... Are you in need of a good sleep and a hearty meal?”
“Yes.”
“I thought so. Thanks to the benevolence of the Goddess Hylia, I can offer you a place to stay. When would you like me to wake you?”
“Morning.”
“It shall be done.” So officiatious, Kapson! XD “Now then, time for a short rest...”
The screen blacked out and that nice little go-to-bed music played.
.... He didn’t charge me. ^_^
“Did you sleep well? May the kindness of Goddess Hylia be ever with you...”

Tarrey Town’s music was so lovely. <3

But I Like The Red Rocks

Afternoon of Sunday, January 27, 2019

I started up in my own house in Hateno Village.
I wanted to go see what Hudson was up to. Bolson had wondered about him, said something maybe about trouble.... or had hinted that Hudson couldn’t have gotten into too much of such.... which meant....
Mmmm I roved over my mental map of Akkala, wondering where he could have gone. The land was lush and green all over, but I could not banish the lake from my thoughts....
And if he was at Lake Akkala.... well, dude, freakin’—there were Guardians in there!
I warped to the Wolf Shrine—that shrine low north of Zorana, on the cliffs overlooking the waterfalls and the fairy fountain. Wolves had harrassed me when I first came upon it, and were still often seen nearby. And I ran off the cliff and paraglided toward that jut of land just downtrail from Mija’s little copse, out over Lake Akkala.
Standing all alone over the water....
But of course.... There was nothing else there. Nothing but a Goddess statue....
And I drew nearer to the islandy formation and lo! I saw.... some structures there.... And I saw Hudson! Picking away at a rock! He was okay!
I floated down on the landbridge for a proper approach, and the new name of the place gleamed across my screen: Tarrey Town.
Tarrey Town? Was this where he was expanding? Was he settling here?
I had a nice conversation with Hudson. Gave him ten bundles of wood for materials. I didn’t mind helping him! Aww it was good to see him well! ^_^
But the great hulking boulders on this.... island for lack of a better term.... He needed somebody strong, like a Goron (but with a last name ending in –son, per policy), to come and help him get rid of them.
:(
But I liked the shape of this island. And Akkala’s red rocks were so pretty....
Oh humm hmmm.... This seemed fit to develop into something massive and irrevocable.
....
I reloaded back at my house. Without saving.
Dipped around for a little bit.... Mounted a couple more weapons....
Currently, from left to right around the lower room’s walls, the setup consisted of: the Falcon Bow gifted by Teba, My Trusty Phrenic Bow, (empty); the Lightscale Trident, (empty), the Ceremonial Trident; (empty), the Forest Dweller’s Shield, and the Kite Shield.
I just liked the look of the Rito Shield.... And it was still fresh anyway. So was the Falcon Bow.
I liked Akkala’s beautiful red rocks—how could I move forward with this?
....
Eh, it would autosave occasionally. I just called it a day.

Seven Prayers

Waking of Saturday, January 26, 2019

My last practice with Shelene and Jane went well.
We women are better singers.

jghjrlghrjlgjhrlea!!ASDFFGGHJKL;

It was time to pray.

After I awoke at Pepp’s, I warped to the Forgotten Temple, deep in the folded land at the head of Tanagar Canyon.
I first prayed before the Giant Goddess Statue, towering tall and smiling with her serene hands resting clasped over her belly. The powerful, imposing figure seemed to want and deserve being first.
And the Goddess granted me a Stamina Vessel.
From there I warped to.... but I felt no connection to Hateno Village.
I warped to Kakariko Village, placidly nestled in the mountains north of the Dueling Peaks, in the shadow of the Pillars of Levia.
I then prayed before the Little Koi Pond Goddess Statue, which was one of the smaller, more simplistic renditions, molded with the suggestion of praying hands. This one wore a little pinafore smock like an apron.
And the Goddess granted me another Stamina Vessel.
And, “Your being overflows with vigor. There is no need to further enhance your stamina,” the Goddess imparted to me. Or some such words.
That was three full wheels of stamina now.
That was what David had....
Following my old footsteps, from there I warped to Zora’s Domain, secluded in the fountains of the rugged blue mountains beyond the wetlands.
I then prayed before the Little Balcony Goddess Statue, which was unadorned, but held a prominent position before King Dorephan’s chamber.
Of course, as David had done, I asked for another Stamina Vessel just to see what would happen.... but the Goddess only reminded me once again that my being already overflowed with vigor, and there was no need.
So I asked aright, and She granted me a Heart Container instead.
From there I took a brief moment to put on my protective suit before warping to Goron City, high on the scorching western flanks of the mighty Death Mountain, crusted between claws of rock and lava flows, its air all flecked with embers.
I then prayed before the Little Crowned Goddess Statue, which was ensconced in a rough-cut shrine of rugged stone near Big Boss Bludo’s house. This one wore a bright yellow, three-pointed crown on its head! The make of it seemed to glow....
And the Goddess granted me another Heart Container.
From there I warped to Gerudo Town, the bustling oasis, jewel in the sands, and had to stop to put on some different clothing before entering town. I bought some arrows before finding my way back to the Forgotten Court and visiting with Muava.
I then prayed before the Little Court Goddess Statue, left alone in its quietude with only garbage and lost things for company, but no less faithful in its prayerful rendition, no less a conduit for worship.
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.
From there I warped to Rito Village, stacked in beautiful wooded seclusion in Tabantha’s piney wilderness, over breezy trails loved by the sun.
I then prayed before the Little Flowered Goddess Statue, set in its alcove in the Neck, adorned with comely cloths and wearing a circlet of flowers on its head and with flowers before its feet. Ahhh, this one is my favorite. :)
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.
And that was.... two statues of magnitude or personal importance.... plus the statues in the lands of the four peoples I had visited.... which made six....
Just one more.
And from there.... finally.... I warped to the Shrine of Resurrection, far away and back and long ago on the Great Plateau, back where it all began, hidden away in the cave so secluded, full of steps and barriers I had halted to climb when I was naked and weak as a kitten.
I rushed out into the sunlight quick as anything now in my rattling gear and thick clothing, and made my way to the Temple of Time, past the paltry Red Bokoblins around whom I used to be so cautious and calculated. One cut was all it took to bring them down now.
Past the crumbling walls and in the hallowed space inside, where the moss and the grass grew as soft as a prayer, and the air moved in glimmering haunts fit for fairies, I then prayed before the Temple Goddess Statue, standing in the midst of its attendant statuettes and smiling that same serene smile under a shaft of heavenly light.
And the Goddess granted me a Heart Container.

Seven Prayers. That would do.
I was stronger now.

Then....
Hateno Village.

I had unfinished business.

The Last Frontier

Waking of Saturday, January 5, 2019 ~ 2

From the Ancient Columns and down the gentler, grassier back of the hill, I sported with a few Moblins and a lily-Korok before striking toward the Sheikah Tower.
The tower stood at the crest of a rocky hill to the north, across an empty gorge where the road bent and twined. Malice crawled all over the stones around the tower’s base. It was at a lower altitude than where I was, but I could tell I wouldn’t be able to paraglide directly onto the tower. The best I could hit was partway up the slope on the gorge’s far side.
Mom was with me during this part. I enjoy.... just being with my Mom. Even when she still starts and warns and cautions whenever I run along the edges of cliffs or take flying leaps into the air.
She is a Good Mom. <3
I floated over, scrambled up the far slope, and came to where the tower was. Malice completely encompassed its base; I couldn’t access it. There were a few tall stones standing here and there; I thought perhaps if I could get on one of those.... I could paraglide from one to the other.... maybe paraglide onto the side of the tower, but.... No, the distances were too great. I’d fry in the slime.
Gooped. Ya got gooped.” –PBG
I couldn’t climb a stone and float over to the tower, but....! There!
I found an eyeball. :)
I shot it, it poofsploded and evaporated, taking a lot of the Malice with it, and the column it had been surrounding collapsed against the tower! Access!
And a long climb through the fargazing music later, I was at the top.
This was my last Sheikah Tower. The Tabantha Tower.
I set my slate into the pedestal, distilled the rune, and.... ♪You get the thing!♪ ....The last blank space on my map populated. This was the Tabantha Frontier.
Complete Map of Hyrule Extracted, said my Slate.
Wow! ^_^
The Rito Rock—that tall, oddly-shaped spire—Heh, Oddly-shaped indeed—it looked like a bird!Although.... that Oddly was probably a mockingbird or a grackle; this rock spire looked more like the neck and head of some kind of crane or stork....
*AHEM*
The Rito Rock, I could see from the tower, was so close now, standing tall and straight, its neck hewn all up and down with odd angles from erosion, and its “beak” jutting out at a stark perpendicular angle at the top. I could see, both from the tower and on my map, that the spire actually stood in the middle of a sizeable lake. Huh.
Okay!
I considered, as I was so high up and could see all the world laid out before me. I could have struck out on a more direct route to the Rito Rock, but.... I decided to follow the road instead. Rather unlike me, now that I think about it.
It was rife with Lizalfos.
But after cutting and dodging my way through so many belligerent hoodlums I came at length to the Rito Stable. This was the one I had seen from the edge of Hebra.
Kass was there.
After talking with some of the other people there, I approached him.
He was happy to see me in one piece! The feeling was mutual as always. ^_^ And here so close to his hometown of Rito Village, he said he was feeling terribly homesick, and confided to me that he’d had to leave his wife and children back in the village.
Kass has a wife and kids? I thought. My goodness!
I never knew.
“But I can’t go home until I fulfill my promise to my teacher,” he said.
“Promise?” I asked. It was my only option.
“My promise to... No, perhaps now is not the time.”
He said he would tell me, in Rito Village, once he learned all the ancient songs.
So mysterious, Kass.... I’d heard him talk about his teacher before.... What promise did he mean....?
I decided to sleep the night at the stable before moving on. And in the morning, I headed toward the village.
The lake—Totori Lake—was different from most other lakes I had seen, in that its “shore” consisted mostly of two-hundred-foot dropoffs all the way around. The water shimmered distantly below in the enormous, sunken, beigestony pit. A few other rock spires stood attendant to the mighty bird-shaped one in the center, but none it seemed were half so tall. I could see the occasional updraft blowing here and there as well, in the event I should paraglide around and sink too low, but aside from those.... there didn’t seem to be much down there....
Not that I had reason to worry: well kempt, handsome bridges of dark wood spanned from shore to spire to spire to spire, high above the water. It was at the beginning of the first of these bridges that I met Gesane of the Rito as he patrolled the path to the village.
He introduced his home and kin for me: “The Rito of Totori Lake. Where the men are fine archers and the women better singers.”
Heh.
^_^ I liked it.
The tops of the spires were grassy, and pleasant, with birds and flowers and pine trees and even the occasional little water pocket pond. This really was beautiful country. Breezy and beautiful.
As I crossed the third bridge after the second rock, there were.... Malice drips and a sudden blackout? Would I meet the Divine Beast? I’d forgotten these bits! But it was.... a BLOOD MOON CINEMATIC?
The Blood Moon rises once again,” came Zelda’s voice.
BUT IT WAS DAYTIME.
Please be careful, Link.”
THE SCENE ENDED. It was six-something in the morning.
What the heck?
Afraid I had missed the proper cinematic on a glitch, I reloaded from the stable, and went toward the village again. I stopped to pick the same peppers or berries or whatever it was I had grabbed before. I moved forward at the same pace, had the same talk with Gesane. Began crossing over the water and came to the same bridge and....
Nothing.
Huh.
But.... I had reloaded.... Was the game acting like I had saved?
I kept moving slowly and shoot that was a bear over there, didn’t want to get its attention, what was a bear doing on one of these rock spires
But nothing else happened. And.... I.... finally just kind of accepted that.... the game had somehow deprived me of the cinematic.
I resigned myself to just find it on YouTube later.
I sighed, relaxed my guard, and just continued on AND THEN THAT TERRIBLE BIRDLIKE SHRIEKING FROM THE SKY.
Then came the Divine Beast introduction cinematic.
. . . . Whoof.
That was alarming. I told David about it later and we laughed.
On into the village, and I was really liking the look of this place. Lush grass, sweet flowers, breezy pines; the dark, comely wood of the bridges-turned-staircases and -boardwalks intermittently broken by soft earthen paths under the gentle sun; the wilderness on all sides and above and below....
And the music. Rito Village’s music....
*-!-*
And in a soft jolt, I was both surprised and not:
It was DRAGONROOST. <3
It was the musical theme from Dragonroost Island.... only settled cozily in a cabin in the woods, instead of flying fiercely about a wild island in the bluster of an untamed sea.
Of course it was Dragonroost.
Ahhh. <3
The handsome boardwalk continued straight inward and upward, ending directly against the base of the central pillar of the Rito Rock, the Neck of the Crane. At this landing, the wooden path continued to the right, winding upward and away around the Neck. But for a moment I was more taken with the sight just in front of me.
At this juncture, a gentle alcove had been carved into the light stone of the spire, and a small Goddess statue erected in the hollow. The little shrine was laid with decorative cloth; offerings of flowers lay thereon at the statue’s foot, and a crown of similar blossoms rested gaily upon its head. All bright and fresh-looking as if they’d just been picked.
Of all the shrines to the Goddess I had seen, this one was surely the fairest in its happy simplicity.
*
The pine trees smiled and the wind and wood breathed.
The earth and the sun had never been as content.
The world was at ease here.
*
Well at this point I was pretty sure I’d finally done it. I had seen every major habitation Hyrule had to offer. Just in case.... Just in case....
Just in case of that notion I well knew by now to be only fancy, but which I had still decided to humor through to the end: I had made sure, or sure enough, that there were no other houses to be bought aside from that one in Hateno.
So that was the only place.
Hahhhh.

But if I had had a choice.... the pines, the grass, and open air, the open-walled homes in cozy simplicity, village full of flyers and all musically inclined....

Yes.

I think I would have lived here.

I think I would have lived here.

The Lamb

Waking of Friday, September 21, 2018 ~ 5

I was brought back to the top of the mountain, to the Spring of Wisdom.
The Goddess statue spoke again.

“Thanks to your efforts, Naydra, the spirit
of Mount Lanayru, has been freed from
the grips of an evil power.”

The dragon was once again coiled atop the mountain, but he looked much better, the arching curves of his long body more alive, less weighed down, his great taloned feet strong on the snow and ice beneath him. His great head he held, low and docile, above the spring. Eyes so bright....

“But a single ceremony remains. Now...
Loose your arrow through the body of
Naydra to free the spirit of this region!”

What?
Naydra still lay.... stood.... coiled, there, head hung low beneath his beautifully arched neck. I’d never seen a dragon still as this before. And getting a chance to actually look at him, he was.... just....
His eyes so bright and yet so calm, wells of peace, outward facing as a deer or a horse, such long beautiful eyelashes, drooping, funneled llama-ears hanging down, and his flexing, moving, unsplit, camellike muzzle.... Was he really a scaled creature? It looked almost like a fringe of fur, hanging down from his upper.... lip. Whiskered. Fuzzed. So that the mouthline could not be seen. Like a grazing creature. Patient. Peaceful.
In that moment especially, the blue spirit Naydra really did seem.... as a lamb.
And I held the knife.
I did take a few pictographs first, some of them, I’m only a little sorry to say.... somewhat irreverent. Like standing as if in deep and oblivious thought with his man-sized, all-rending claws behind me....
It was funny.
And I tried to touch him, too. But, even when he was still, the force and chill of his body sent me sprawling back, taking a tiny bite from my health each time.
All right.
I went back to the platform. If it was to be a bowshot, I wanted to try for a hornshard. Giving the honors to the Phrenic Bow that had served me so well, I took careful aim, and landed a shaft in the crystal-blue horn a third-way up from the dragon’s brow.
At the contact, Naydra took off, this time rearing straight up into the grey, grey sky, and for a worryingly long time, or what seemed like it, nothing happened. But after a moment, a gleaming something broke from the glittering mark I had left on the horn, and came streaking back down to earth, landing on the platform before the Goddess statue.
It was a dragon scale.
Well.... that was good enough, I thought.

“That is the spirit Naydra’s scale.
It fell when your arrow struck.

It serves as proof of the courage you
received from the one who served the
spring since ancient times.

Come... Offer a scale from the blue spirit
Naydra to the Spring of Wisdom.”

Naydra....
He was flying away. Up into his vortex in the sky.
Like they do.
I picked up the scale. The first and only one I had ever held from the blue dragon Naydra. So precious and wanted a thing, but.... I needed to sacrifice it to another, first.
I stepped down into the spring, waded forward to where I could see the royal family’s crest engraved upon the submerged stones, and let fall the scale into the water.
A plash and a golden light.... and a door opened behind the Goddess statue.

“Your path has shown itself. Now go forth.”

I glanced into the sky once more before entering the cavern. Freed from the shackles of evil, Naydra flew away in peace.
And I crossed over the threshold, and entered the Jitan Sa’mi Shrine.
And when I stepped back out of it, it was noon, and the mountain knew it.
And the high, cold music was playing again.
Clarion as ice.

The Erhu Profane

Waking of Friday, September 21, 2018 ~ 4

The obvious next destination after passing through the East Gate of the Lanayru Road was the grand and imposing Mount Lanayru.
But I didn’t quite pass through the gate after all, because there was a Lynel out there, stalking through the aspens. White-maned no less....
Rather I skittered up into the hills to the south, to see if I could bypass it, in the process climbing above a landmark I had long regarded with awe and reverence on my map: Purifier Lake.
A fat red Hinox snored in the spray of its waterfall, occasionally scratching its moldy bellybutton. How putrid! OH how I longed to kill the offending brute—but with that Lynel so close....
....
I didn’t feel like tangling with it just now, but at least decided that this was as good a time as any for a certain.... field-test....
I climbed to a prominent part of the hillside where the Lynel would just be able to see me, and started jumping up and down to get its attention.
And it saw me all right. And as I’d hoped, at this range, it drew its bow, nocked an arrow, and pulled back the string. On went my Thunder Helm....
The Lynel at Shatterback Point had nearly zapped me into flash-fry with its Shock Arrows. The one down in the Lynels’ Corridor had shocked me into dropping my items with the same. But here.... I’d be able to see what the Thunder Helm was really capable of....
Or I would have.... if only this Lynel hadn’t been using.... ICE ARROWS?
Fortunately the projectiles came up short, spawning wicked but harmless frosted stalagmites that erupted out of the rock with a rumbling.
I booked it, retreating higher up into the hills. No arrows connected. I was safe.
But....
....
Well.
Another time.
With another Lynel!

I trudged over the hillsides and down into the Naydra Snowfield in the foothills of the mountain, safe and barriered from the Lynel by a sharp ridge of stone. Snow lay thick upon the ground here, and the Chillshrooms grew everywhere! They seemed to spring from the base of every stark or naked pine, and there were quite a few of those.
I only wandered and swept from side to side for a bit, checking for Koroks and other interesting things while heading in a vague, forward direction. The clothes I was obliged to wear—my Ruby Circlet and Warm Doublet—together protected me from the intense cold, but offered me poor defense against Ice Chuchus, Ice Lizalfos and wolves. Well, the Ruby Circlet was strong enough. But the Warm Doublet only had one defense point. Whereas my Champion’s Tunic currently had fourteen.
I suppose I could have saved myself an awful lot of trouble, and monster encounters, if I had only climbed the mountain the way I had climbed up Death Mountain for the first time, when I’d realized there was that memory up there.... That time, I had gone straight up the side, caring nothing for the road, for I hadn’t even realized there was one. But here in the snowfield, as I neared the other end, and as the land began to rise, I looked at the ground I was heading to tread on and—
“Stairs!” I thrilled to David, “There are stairs!” There was an old road beneath the snow! The ancient architecture enthralled me as ever.
The land was so blanketed here that the road could not be discerned, except for the sharp corners of stone stairs peeking through the snow at the occasional sharp rise.
And I remembered the Lanayru Road, and how the path had continued, and wound away through the aspens where the Lynel prowled, and how there was even that cut through the natural stone barrier to the snowfields—the road must have come through there as well, though I hadn’t. And now here, at the foot of the mountain, and seemingly for a great distance yet, fine stonework showed through the frost.
That it should be so developed! I flicked to my map and found where I was and looked and.... Yes, yes! There it was in the topo! The road led all the way to the top! And if it was like this all the way up the mountain....
Augh, the ruins would be fantastic.
And I could only imagine it in its prime glory days.
Of course, it wasn’t until I had already come a long way along it, batting off wolves and Chuchus and Lizalfos all the while, that I recalled how few monsters I had encountered while climbing off the beaten track toward my first recovered memory back in Eldin. That is to say, almost zero. And here on the icy road, against the more populous foes, my clothes could not protect me very well....
But there wasn’t really anything for it now. I supposed I could have veered off and started climbing the walls, but.... No. I would be all right. I had meant to come this way.
Besides, partway up the mountain, I was distracted by something so chilling it made me forget my road-woes entirely.
Night was falling. Though under the cloud cover of the high mountain, it made little difference to the light or the visibility. The Ice Lizalfos hunkered thick along the trail. I was paragliding round to duke it out with one camouflaged one, when—
....Strange music?
Upon landing I turned. Another Lizalfos I hadn’t seen was behind me, likewise camouflaged. Neither of them made a move, but I still didn’t care for being surrounded.
What was that.... music? It sounded like that music that heralds a dragon, but.... no, this was something else. What was going on?
The tune was the same, but the music, the chords, the intervals had changed. Why did it sound so diminished? So distorted? It felt sick and ungodly. A perversion of the sublime erhu I had heard before.
I reached a broad point where the road switched back and a few pillars stood sentinel or leaned in frozen tottering. I checked them for Koroks, and in climbing to the top of one of them, paused for a moment and looked up toward the mountain’s top—closer now. And there among the jagged crags and icy protrusions I thought I could see.... something....
And I gasped when I knew. MALICE? HERE? No!
But it was worse. It was.... heaving. And I saw the bluish horn coming off of it.... never seen blue Malice before.... And I saw another horn, and another, and more slowly rising and falling curves of a serpentine body, and.... No! Itit couldn’t be!
I grabbed my Pictobox. Aimed it.
....Naydra....
This was Naydra. Naydra was.... something was on it.... a parasite.
A Malice Parasite.
Naydra....

I hurried.
And of a sudden I was there. The final switchback had been so abrupt.
Naydra.... he looked.... horrible. The Malice was globbing so huge and heavy onto his head, like a cancerous growth. I could feel the weight of his wilting neck, his eyes forced near to closing beneath the drooping mass.
The long coils of the dragon’s body looped heavily among the topmost crags of the mountain. Further globs of burning, cruel Malice clung onto its scales, the magenta bleeding into the deep blue, staining it, tainting it, infecting it....
And then the Goddess statue—or the Goddess, through the statue—spoke.

“You have done well to find your way to this spring.”

The statue stood at the back of a spring of water, templed and paved with stones as the Spring of Power had been. This was....

“You who have overcome numerous trials
and obtained the Spirit Orbs...

The one you see before you is an
attendant to the Spring of Wisdom.
This is Naydra, the blue spirit of Lanayru.”

This was the Spring of Wisdom. I knew it. I knew it from my map and from Sanadin Park memories and from all the hearsay of Hateno.

“This servant of the Goddess has looked
over the spirits of this land for ages,
unknown to the world of man.

However, the dreaded Malice unleashed
by Calamity Ganon has possessed its
body and reduced it to this state.

You who have received the Spirit Orbs...
Free Naydra from this Malice.
Show what your power can achieve!”

And at the statue’s last words, an enormous, popping yellow eyeball OPENED UP and swiveled ponderously from the heart of the mass on Naydra’s head.
I was free to move and Naydra had not stirred, except for the lumbering of its panting breaths as its head bowed and wept. The eyeball still gaped all around like a demonic blinking baby.
A large target.... and fairly stationary.... Would it really be that simple?
I took as many steps forward as I dared, and reached for a Phrenic Bow I had been keeping in reserve for a long, long time. I hadn’t really known what for. But if not for this, then nothing.
“Don’t fail me now....” I crooned as I took aim at the distant, house-sized globe....
The arrow struck true, and the eyeball-mass mouthlessly screeched before dissolving in a pruff of evil. Naydra’s head seemed to come alive—it pulled heavily, strongly upward, his eyes opened, his indigo skin was free and open and cold and—
He kept rearing. Higher and higher he arced, and then the coils of his long body followed him. Slithering through the air between the cracks, he mounted up into the sky and twined and writhed as the remaining Malice globs burned still upon his skin.
Uh? Was he coming back? It didn’t look like it—I hoofed it up the one remaining trail to the right, the one that led right up to the mountain’s crest—Naydra twined in the sky above the cap—
But he was so big and he moved so fast and there was so much of him—I tried cutting beneath an arc of his body as it slid over the path, so low.... But I must have made some contact, and the force bowled me off my feet and back down the track.
The Malice masses were being pulled along so quickly and so sinuously through the air—it was hard to take aim—but my Phrenic Bow did not fail me—I pierced another eyeball! Giant as the first had been.
But Naydra’s flight did not slow or calm. He began to twine away from the peak, lower down the mountain. And I was hesitant. Such altitude would be difficult to regain, if I followed him down there only to have to chase him back to these heights....
But he wasn’t coming back. Only rolling and weaving and twisting in monumental agitation further down the slopes. And there was nothing else for it, and so....
Uhhh
I steeled myself and leapt from an icy crag to sail down after the poor beast.
Then as I exited the cloud cap and came into clearer airs, I saw I needn’t have worried—every crag and crack and dell and glen thrust a powerful updraft into the night. They were far below me now, but the sight was comforting.
I sailed closer and attempted to head the dragon’s twining—and one of the Malice globs. But Naydra’s course and speed were impossible to predict. How many masses were there? Five in all? I took a chance when a glob passed close, drew my bow, time slowed, had to watch my stamina.... carefully, CAREFULLY....
I struck the eyeball, but had expended too much strength to do it and my stamina wheel was empty and I was falling toward the black earth and the updrafts wouldn’t help me but nosomehowSOMEHOW....
How did I catch myself?
Where had that stamina come from when I was able to just deploy my paraglider right above the crag to keep myself from becoming a greasy smear on the rocks....? And I touched down and—
Where was I?
....
Somewhere low. Down the mountain.
It was a big playing field tonight.

It seemed that, like the glowing and strengthening of the Master Sword, sometimes, if you executed things just right.... you could regain your strength, and sail safely away from the point of exhaustion.

I climbed to the point of the black rock where I stood, and leapt off into an updraft. The valley was alive with wind.
“Naydra!” I chased after him. “Naydra!
And still he twined so massively in his circuitous writhing.
He flew around, I rode the airs, I chased him all the way back down to the Naydra Snowfield where he tore up the trees with his passing.
“Naydra you have to hold still!”
I took careful aim.... thank goodness for this Phrenic Bow....
Two more globs....
One more glob....
And I shot the last one.
The indigo Naydra huffed, breathed.... and blinked its big bright colorful eye. He flew up into the air again and with a strain or a stretch, burst from the last darkness that I hadn’t realized was still holding him—the indigo exploded from him and turned to dust—that was not his true color? He arced and reared higher, and as he rose he glowed and gleamed brighter, brighter, BRIGHTER, into an astonishingly brilliant ice-teal the color of a frozen Caribbean bay, his crown of many horns shining the blue of an ancient glacier.
Oh he was beautiful now....
He was glorious.
